Welcome to Librarium Online!
After reading the various posts and army lists that address this topic I would like to pose a question. Which is the best way to equip our Black Orc Warboss on a Wyvern?
1) Black Orc Warboss -451 Pts-
Shaga's Screamin' Sword
Collar of Zorga
2) Black Orc Warboss -451 Pts-
Ulagg's Akkrit Axe
Best Bosses At'
With 1 you get the benefit of more attacks with higher str depending on the proximity of characters from the other army. I threw the collar in to make the points even, I suppose it could help out in limited situations.
With 2 you get a +5 ward, +1 str in the first round, and can re-roll missed hits (which would increase your chances of a killing blow)
Obviously the answer is going to depend on whether you can get your boss into situations where there are 3-4 enemy characters within 12 inches. But I was hoping someone might chime in with experience on which of these builds has served them best. Also, I added a tourney list I have been working on in the Army List thread, any thoughts there would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks
HI, welcome to the boards! I tend to use not a Blorc but a shaman on my wyvern with an amulet of protectyness and waaagh paint (and sometimes something else if I need to) and fly him off at something big and shiny. I then take a few shamans too and (maybe) a Blorc (maybe BSb) hero with the horn of urgok to add in some extra magic and try to dominate that phase. But then I do play rather unorthodoxly. I do like the screaming sword at 2k+ points though.
EDIT: @ lv4 mine comes to 490 points!
the second choice being a bit better survivable because of an extra ward save. The screaming sword is very popular and you can count on it giving a solid 2 str and 2 attacks in the first few turns
obviously it rather depends on what army your fielding AND on your strategy because he will have a very different effect if you put the wyvern up front in the centre.
If you attack the enemy dead on, dont go without the screaming sword, with that sword you will do enough damage to break solid groups like cavalry or chariots.
a wyvern has 3 attacks, that really is not much so your heros attacks will have to do the trick
still up to 2250 pts
i would go for the re-rolls and ward save and use it to start a flanking move
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
I usually drop the Iron gnashas (most things that can be KB'd I usually do at least 2 wounds to anyway) and run Shaggas with the enchanted shield and best boss hat. But its really just a matter of preferance, I wouldn't say any Shaggas build is really better than any other. All of them are better than the Axe in my opinion though, its really easy to get at least +2 strength/attack outta Shaggas.
at least take a mundane Spear, for the +1 S on a charge.
No, never take a mundane spear with a black orc, he loses his other goodies.
I recently played a game with a normal orc warboss on wyvern with armour of gork and the akrit axe. He survived the entire game despite being warp lightning-ed like and the wyvern only died because the warp lightning cannon managed to wound at S2 and does D6 wounds . Back on topic, I always prefer re-rolls because hitting is normally where you mess up and a warboss will still be S6 with teh axe.
Savage Orc Warboss instead of a Blackorc one will give you, +1 attack and a 6+ward Save.
How does Armour of Gork, Ulags Akrit Axe and Amulet of Protectyness sound? and normal Shield
This way you have a toughness of 6, an armour save of 5+, and a ward save of 6+.
This increased toughness should half the number of wounds done on you by Str4 hits, and if you fight an Enemy Lord, you will steal his Amazing Armour and Ward Saves if they are better than yours. i.e. Fight some Chaos Knights and you have Toughness 6, Armour save 1+ and 6+ Ward Save., then you have 5 attacks back at him, reroll Misses.

Amulet means you MUST steal their save
