Can someone please explain to me how the Wolf mounted gobbo big boss with Wollupas and Tricksy Trinket can be used for any great deal of effect?
So you're fighting a unit with this big boss and use the One hit Wunda, 3 strength 10 attacks. But still, 4 is a fairly measly weapon skill for a character, and even then that's only 3 kills at best.
So take it as a character killer instead. Except most characters worth killing will have just as good if not much better WS, which means you're relying on luck a great deal to score the 2 or 3 wounds you need.
At just over 90 points then no, this combo is not a large investment and far from being major VP's for the opponent. However, I really don't see it as being all it's cracked up to be.
Maybe i'm missing something here? Please let me know if I am.
You made one very important note there:
'which means relying on luck a great deal'.
Goblins are completely random and their best weapons are very much based on luck.
However if you take alot of these jokes in your army, at least some are bound to go off every battle.
heres one way i used it with very nice effect, usually i use the tricksy trincket, but here i use it wallopa's and the kicking boots.
he was with an army standard bearer, with nogg's banner of butchery (aye another attack xD) and he was equipped with a 40 goblin spearmen suit of armour. and 2 fanatics.
1 bigboss, onehitwunda+ tricksy trink or kicking boots
1 army standard, banner of butchery
40 ng spearmen with fanatix and full command
march them up from the centre (make sure you have some scary monsters to attract his spells/guns. Giants and doomdivers will do the trick.
Unless your enemy is fielding mortars or massive spells, this unit will make it into the enemy centre almost unharmed
I marched mine into a dwarflongbeards regiment with his general (no not a lord...) and charged him. set off the banner and dagger and his general was very dead (someone was very amazed this was hapopening) his dwarfs ran off after that hehe.
i was rather lucky he only had an armoursave(1+ though) no ward and i got the initial attack
the tricksy trink works wonders against deamons, and to override the fear, youll need a cave squig instead of a wolf. can also attack any direction, unlike a wolfmounted character
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
Yeah I can see that it's potential for good fun, crazy strength 10 goblin is an awesome idea.
The extra attacks would obviously help, but then you're pouring alot more points into the combo. Plus, my main opponent is empire, i.e cue the mortar.
Also, I like to save Nogg's banner for Savage orc Big 'uns ranked in 7's. I'd much rather use it to get 29 Strength 5 attacks in a round over 5 strength 10, although that combo is a helluvalot more pricey.
I've used my goblin on a chariot with one hit wunda and tricket. About 50% or maybe even more he gets, what i feel is unlucky. The other % of the time, he has made some amazing achievements, to name a few
1.Killed a saurus general, but was then killed by his carnasaur.
2. Along with a giant charged a unit of tzeentch horrors, rolled a 6 for impact hits, pretty much hit and wounded with everything, could have killed over 10 I believe, obscene luck of course.
3. In order to attempt to save my huge orc unit with BSB that failed an animosity test, from being flanked he charged in the front a large unit of saurus, used the one hit wunda, got lucky and killed 9 of them, only taking a wound back from the champion, then ran them down and hit another unit of saurus in the flank, won and ran them down. (still lost the game)
4. Killed a hydra
Thats out of 20 games but he's dies a lot of the time but tends to a least take down a character, or help support my other chariots, surpise small cavalry units with his large charge range also.
It sounds like it'd be alot more efficient in a chariot to some extent, as atleast you can get some more kills in, albeit not strength 10 ones.
I may try it at some point in the chariot, see if it works for me. I'm still not seeing it's benefit when Wolf Mounted though unless - like Digger said - it's wearing a 40 Night Goblin suit of armour!
I'm a big fan of running the goblin with wollapas and the trinkey either into the same unit as whatever my wyvern is attacking to soak up a challenge or just deny my opponent a ward save with whatever my wyvern is fighting. Works great to break pesky units like phoenix guard and demons.
Ah, I can see it's benefit in Tournament armies now. Since it was such a cool idea I was sure I had to be missing something.
I hadn't heard of the Goblin Missile actually, but that sounds pretty cool too. Might have to give that a shot at some point
Yeash, not a combo I'd thought of before either. I'd be interested to see how this combo performs, and how the rest of the army performs around it.
