Welcome to Librarium Online!
Not sure if this has been done, mentioned, or anything like that, but I'm going to try this setup when I get to play my O&G for the first time soon! See what guys think, it's one character going inside a unit as follows:
Lord - Black Orc Warboss
Lots of Choppas, Amulet of Protectyness, Armour of Gork, Guzzlahs Battle Brew
he goes inside of:
Core - 40x Night Goblins
FC, Spears, Nets, 3x Fanatics
So I have a couple of thoughts on this unit. First, if the nets work, my Lord gets to toughness 7. That's pretty sweet. AMulet gives him a crack ward and armour, and I threw in the Battle Brew to hopefully give him hatred with 2 choppas. With a bit of luck, He's tough and hits hard.
Thoughts at all? Anyone tried this? Net's seem to work great to protect characters, is there a better set-up I'm overlooking? (I'd prefer him on foot, because he'd be even harder to rank up otherwise!)
i'm a little surprised at the lack of response, i thought the idea was crazy enough
I use almost the same boss at themoment, at the core f my army, its quite solid.
not using the battlebrew though, im affraid he gets frenzy or stupidity, although now im thinking maybe its not so bad to be frenzy with such a slow character
i think netters work better with normal infantry.
How about changing the setup of spearmen to sword and shield...
using spears in this unit:
if your unit charges you dont get extra (s3,ws2)attacks, if you get charged yourself you might lose combat because the goblins die too fast, undoing your warboss' work
Also from the points you save you can buy some snotlings pew pew
Fanatics are great with this , i once had one right in front of my unit, so the enemy didnt declare a charge with his smaller unit. Next turn i just ran straight through the fanatic losing a few lousy gobbo's and then winning the combat!

Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
I see what you mean, the Spears came with the Battle for Skull Pass, and are a pain to convert...for 1 point, I'll just keep em I can always use a hand weapon when need be, and hey, in 2 ranks of 8, it may come in handy, never know when you need to kill some zombies....
The brew is a risk, but it's the only way I can see something that resembles hatred, and I 'm not keen on the Akrit Axe - I'd rather be Armed to da Teef when on foot.
Thanks, I'll be playing this set up in a couple of days, I'll report on how it goes!
Reporting back since I said I would....
This set up ended up being an awesome success - even though I rolled up Stupidity for my general! Nets worked great, protecting both the Warboss and Gobbos very nicely. With numbers, nets, and the Warboss' killing ability, this unit easily despatched 20 Chaos Warriors with a Sorcerer inside
