Right so I got to play my first game today. It was only 1250 and I don't have all the models I wanted to field ( no pump wagons or spear chuckas yet ). So I was stuck using a bunch of night goblins of different types and a group of squig hoppers. But the army lived up to all my hopes and then some.
I ended up getting all but tabled ( only a unit of archers was still alive) but had so many random and fun moments that I didn't mind that at all. Some of the highlight/lowlights included getting charged on the side by a unit of knights, netting myself and then managing to roll insane heroism. squig hoppers getting 17 for movement and charging a small infantry unit 8 hits then 4 1s to wound, I end up tying the unit and loose because they have a musician. Next round the squigs rally then charge the side of a knight unit (since the hoppers move is compulsury (sp? ) we thought this was ok, was that right? ), only to once again fluff attacks and then run off the board. Fanatics, they were pure random win and held a knight unit up for 2 rounds since they didn't want to charge a goblin unit because it would have ment stopping on the fanatic. The fact that he miscast twice added to the insanity.
Things that I learned. Movement is alot trickier than 40k, it is important in both but fantasy is less forgiving. I need to figure out how to get fanatics released on my terms, even just staggering my units a bit so only 1 unit releases them at a time would help. Don't get flank charged by knights or anything for that matter, I need that static combat rez.
I hope that with a few more games and with a larger variety of models I can have a even more fun and put up a better fight but I am hooked.
hehe.. that reminds me of a game i lost some time ago. i was having so many laughs i didnt realise i was getting butchered, then in turn 5 or so i suddenly stopped and realised all i had left were some fanatics.
Once fanatics are loose you can use them as little shields for big goblin units, go stand right behind that fanatic and the enemy will think 3 times before declaring a charge, and who cares if it goes through your own gobs xD
How did the pumpwagons die?
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
I don't have any wagons yet so I couldn't field any. I just recieved some spear chuckas and a squig herd so they will be making an apearance the next game I play. I am also hopeful of getting my hands on some wagons before my next game or failing that I should have a doom diver or giant to try out. I picked night goblins because I wanted some random fun and they delivered. I always seemed to be rolling to see what random thing happened next or laughing at what had happened.
