So, after a long and not terribly arduous day of playing with toy soldiers I've decided that I need to add some cavalry to my army. Wolves are out thematically but spiders I could tolerate. I have models for about 20 and will be converting them to spear cav or bow cav, probably 10 of each.
At the moment I'm thinking of running them as groups of 5, just to irritate and get in the way, occasionally going for flanks. My question for you guys is what extra stuff should they get? I'm thinking banners are out but what about champions and musicians? How do you guys run yours?
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
I'm no expert, hell my O&G army is practically none existent but... These guys are suppose to be fast and annoying. Giving them champions and banners makes them worth something to your opponent. Banners will give away VPs when you lose and champions add to the cost. I my mind the only command upgrade worth it is the musician to get the +1LD when attempting to rally. The rest you really just need to be looking at keeping them cheap and acting as sacrificial units to get the enemy into charge ranges or keep them out the way and to act as harassers. Banners and champions are not ideal for this job.
Aye like Kuffy said. I only use a musician on mine and normally keep them 5 strong with bows.
On occasion I use a 10 strong force with a musician and spears. I get lucky with poison attacks sometimes.
Green iz da' BEST!
Orkz is made fer' two fings! Fightin', and winnin'!
Bows are a must!
The spiders sometimes go through a forest and are suddenly in shootrange of some mounted lich priest or whatnot thats trying to hide right behind, and getting just a few shots off even if you marched is just too nice to pass up on.

musician and bows. multiples of 5, and hopefully a "we'll show them" will let you get in 1st turn charge of artillery / archers / oh hell, anything that presents itself just on sheer principle. It should mess up a carefully deployed line no matter what you hit.

Musicians and Bows. I have actually damaged a STEAM TANK with my Spider riders. They just ran through the forest and shot some wooden arrows into the hydraulics of the Steam Tank. You should have seen the look on the guys face....
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
