With the new rank rules, how will you be equipping and organizing your 3pt baddies
My initial thought is that running a 10x5ranks with spears would be sick: 10 attacks from goblins in base contact, 10 supporting attacks from second rank, 10 additional attacks granted by the spears rank bonus, and 10 more from the horde special rule.
Also thought of throwing in one massive unit of short bows, 10x4 could be devastating with the new ranged attacks.
That's what I'm thinking. 10x5 seems perfect. I'm also gonna toss one fanatic in there to stir things up and my BSB with the poisoned banner. Having around 24 or so poisoned attacks is amazing.
The new book brought a question to my attention though. 2nd rank are supporting attacks, and so are the attacks granted from the horde rule, thus neither can support against flank charges or benefit from Nogg's Banner of Butchery. What about spears though? It doesnt say that they are supporting so can they be used in two ranks against flank charges? Can they benefit from Banner of Butchery?
im definetly going for a few archer units, but since most of my goblins have handweapon shield, im sticking to what i have.
spearmen maybe, but i'll first wait and see how well those perform with you guys :p theyre 30% more expensive
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
but bfsp is going real cheap at the moment - many many spear goblins. it's all i have, so i'll be running spears, thoough it does make every unit 50 points more expensive, it's 10 more attacks on a frontal combat. more dice is better.
10x5 spearmen is probably going to be my main blocks.
Not sure on the number of fanatics im going to include, definately 2 in the archer units though. Might even throw in three for the spears just because i love them so much lol
As for archers i guess i'td vary, 21 seems alright, can go 7x3 if i need to maneuver and 10x2 for all neccesary shots though i doubt 2 will make a huge difference.
i think i'll limit myself to 6 fanatics total, as i want a lvl4 mage and a big unit of trolls.
however, a battle line of 2x50 NG with spears and command, with a central unit of around 8 trolls and NG archers guarding the flanks/making flank attacks will be my plan.
add plenty of war machines, some squig hoppers and some cheap heroes to spice.
i'm finding it difficult to fit it into 2000, though, and i'm hoping our local games go up to 2500 or even 3000.
Bear in mind that anything that is not in the first rank, in base to base contact, is making support attacks. This means that frenzy, extra attack banners and so forth, will not add extra attacks to the further ranks. So Saurus only do 2 attacks on the front rank but not on the other two ranks.
Its fun to see alot of you are planning to go 10x5! I've just finished a movement tray in that size =)
Its a very large unit, but i think it has capability to be very flexible aswell, you can always adjust how many heroes/shamans you wanna go with!
I'll always go with spears for the extra rank of attacks, and im thinking of switching shields for bows to be able to shoot, should be around 25 arrows right?
if your in 5x10 youd get 35 shots
