Welcome to Librarium Online!
So played my first game today and from it learned a few things 1st vanguard rules make fanatics almost worthless if you dont go 1st as any cheap fast cave unit or units is going to run up the bored and make them all go pop it dose bad things when the go off and you have not even moved yet.
I found Rock lobbas to be well worthless with them not ignoring armor and there low str i was getting an average of 2 kills + the guy under the hole i also found that only the model under the hole is subject to the d6 woulds making them all in all useless and or unreliable for killing big targets.
These 2 discovery's lead me to a few things bolt throwers are better than rock lobbas and doom divers are the bomb with the new rules and fanatics and night goblins have lost there place and purpose in my army. Wile this makes me sad them are the breaks. There is my 2 cents.
Rock Lobbas are awesome! Did you know that there are no partials? Anything the circle touches is hit automatically. Granted its only str 3 but you gotta pick ur targets. Also its great at warmachine killing. A hit on a warmachine us usually 2+ to wound and 3+ to kill.
Fanatics are still awesome, but it depends on the army you vs. If they are smart they will try to get your fanatics out asap but I tend to target fast calv first with my magic and shooting. If they do it constantly, spread your fanatics out, dont put 3 in one unit, put 1 or 2 so that all your eggs arnt in one basket. Also, 25 points to kill a unit of fast calv is worth it, also consider bows on ur night goblins just incase the fanatics dont do the trick. reform and shoot and nifty. If they are close enough to trigger your fanatics, they are close enough to shoot at -1 only, a unit of 20 goblins would yield 15 shots. 5+ to hit, 4+ to would (usually) and fast cav usually only have 5/6+ saves.
Rock Lobbas are a great sniping unit, as already mentioned there are no more guess ranges, so you just place the template and anything under the hole takes a strength 9 multiple (d6) wound hit. Along with the Doom Diver you can seriously krump characters on Monsters and war machines, with a pretty decent chance of killing them.
The strength 3 thing is compensated by the fact that they hit everything they touch, which if you do it right means that an entire unit can be hit by the one shot. So yeah, overall I think they're much better. It obviously depends on what you try to hit with it, if you were only killing 2 models each time then they either had very high toughness or you weren't rolling very well to wound.

Seeing as it's your first game under the new rules, it's good that you're learning...
Agree with you on the Gobbos, Fanatics and Spear Chukkas... tbh Fanatics weren't making it into my lists in 7th ed... definitely won't be in 8th!
Spear Chukkas are the best! They were awesome before TLOS and 'ignore armour saves.'
However, disagree with you on Rock Lobbas... How many Lobbas did you field? What were you playing against? What were you targeting with them? My first game of 8th saw my 2 doom divers misfire 5 times in the first 3 turns... but I'm not going to ditch them... I'm just not going to buy a lottery ticket this week
My opinion on rock lobbas is that they are atleast as good as before just differently. They are better at knocking out hordes all those STR 3 hits can do some real damage against say, 40+ high elf spearmen. And as said above, I expect them to do decently against other war machines without having to guess the range. I used to use them against dwarves and warriors of chaos but now 2 chukkas instead of one lobba are what is needed for them.
