Welcome to Librarium Online!
in 8 edition i was wondering what do you all think about the rare options and witch is the best for points on the battle field
So um.. i brainlessly voted DoomDiver myself, since it seems like a no brainer anyway.. but now im wondering.
Advantages of doom diver:
No armour save
Can hit skirmishers with great ease. Although skirmishers arent exactly scary in 8th.
More points than other machines,
Rare slot... thats where our trolls and pump wagons also come from...
Sooooo what is it that makes this baby better than a set of bolt throwers?.. i dont know.
Im actually starting to think my Rare points are better spent on large troll units and the other rares.
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
It's not taking slots but up to 160 points out of 25% issued to Rares, so you can stick pack of trolls or other thingies if you wish.
As for the choice: defenitly doom divers, because of its accuracy and overall usefulness. As compared to trolls which need a babysitter, Giants in 8th edition? Come on... Cannons, cannons everywhere, Snot Pump Wagon are too slow, do only impact hits which won't do much with all those infantry blocks, only chip damage.
I am running 2 Doom Divers 2 Bolt Throwers and a Rock Lobba..... 8th Edition should be called War Machine Hammer. I have destroyed groups of elite HE units with my Doom divers. Just make sure you don't aim directly on the unit, aim off to one side and hope you roll a low scatter number or a bulls-eye then adjust your D3 because all you have to do is "touch the unit" for a D6 str 5 hit with no armor saves..... Brilliant !!!
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
i voted snotling pump wagons soley because the 2d6 impact hits are vital when ppl are having such large units i personnally feel the potential against blocks of say high elves with T3 this really gives us the chance to get rid of those back ranks
but i would also state that i would not consider my views on par with the above views because im no expert...and i have only played something like 4 games since the new edition so yeah =]
Giants. They have an advanced psychological effect. This effect makes many opponents waste their fire and magic. It's called: 'Holy shit that thing's big! Let's kill it quickly!'. So awesome. They aren't bad fighters either.
WH40K - Farsight's Slayers
WHFB - Myfanwy Blaithin's Costal Brigade - 2000 HE
some good reasons but i voted river trolls, there not the best unit and without a baby siter there useless but i just love the new models
ive invested and a block of 6 trolls. unfortunately my regular opponent uses 2x4 flamers, knows how much i care for my lovely new river trolls, and is a sadist. but they put out the hurt, and are 'reliable' next to the general unit and near the bsb.
doom divers are great too. often does exactly the right thing, and perfect for heavy cav. id love to take two, but play too often in 'no double rare' tournies
giants i havent used at all since 8th. i would say a pair would still be devastatingly effective, but less likely for both to make it into combat.
and in the 13 odd years of ong, never used pump wagons. im sorry.
As much as I WISH the answer was the wonderful Giant model, I must say that the Doom Diver is the choice I always end up making.
