They can have bth a shield and dual choppas'.

I just dont know if choppas count as standard hand weapons or as special weapons. If its special weapons you can use choppa+shield in combat, if normal HW, then you can only choose to use dual choppa in combat and so the shield would only work against arrows 'n stuffs.

    thanks!

i rarely feel dual choppa is worth it, but love the shields. It seems though that nobody agrees on what is the best setup for orcs. Some people swear 2 choppas is what makes em win tournies and others say even with 2 choppas you wont dish out enough hurt to actually pay the cost.
If you do bring units with 2 choppas, i would say, dont give em shields aswell. orcs may be cheap, but buffing them up with all sorts of stuff theyre suddenly as expensive as dwarfs and other trash.

i save the dual choppa tactic for black orcs and savage orc infantry.

hey um welcome to LO >.<

Tbh, Digger's hit the nail on the head... take one combo or the other... not both...

I'm in the camp that takes choppa & shield... for 1pt I can improve my armour save from 6+ to 5+ and get a 6+ ward save in combat to the front... all the boyz get the benefit... that's good value... if you want to kill things, put in a character (maybe 2) with the right tools for the job...

Don't see the value in a 2pt choppa... only the front rank benefit... anything S4 or better leaves you without an armour save...

What are you likely to be playing against? If you're up against T3 opposition (empire, brettonians, elves etc) then 2 choppas may prove useful... play a few games with them, see what you like best...

Two choppas!!!Just slashing my way through!!! Plus, with WS 3....I feel that more attacks will hit something.
so i get about 16 attacks, something will hit, some will die!!!!
Whereas with only 10 attacks...You wont have that success.
In addition, light armour and shield...5+ save?with streaght 4 hits its decreased to 6. And on top of that, 6 ward save...come on!What are the chances!!!!
With my dice rolls, that will be impossible! I rolled 11 dices and i got 7 aces...a couple of 2's and just one 4 i think. No 5's or 6's!!!!
So we giving them armoury?Equip this beast with choppas, a banner of butcher +1 attack....And chop your enemies to tiny pieces of flesh.
    And do not forget.
    WAAAAAAGH!!!!!

I use one unit of 30 shield orcs and one unit of 30 two choppa orcs in my army.

also, page 18 "choppas are hand weapons in all respects. they also confer a +1 S bonus to models on foot in the first round of each combat"
