HELP! My goblin army has swallowed up my apartment (~400 models with many large and strange shapes). On top of goblin clutter, I have no means of transporting them from point A to point B. I would probably need 6 GW cases for this, which is ridiculous, not to mention terribly time consuming to set up and tear down, so I need them to be transported in regiments preferably in a single container.
I want the regiments to be stacked (because the total footprint is probably near a square meter) and have foam protection around the regiment so they can handle the odd bump and not shift around too much in the case.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a transport case capable of safely transporting an army this large in formed regiments (with magnetized bases). Pics would be awesome if anyone has built anything similar.
well i cant help very much, but i can share how i transport em now.
The most important part (and this really looks worse than it really is) is that i do not transport em by regiment, instead i take all the fully plastic ones and do em in a few boxes surrounded by 'air-bubble-plastic' (or whatever its called)
Having all painted models varnished is key and avoid bringing any heavier/metal parts in those boxes. So far nothing scratches or breaks in those boxes. and it can take big stacks/piles of plastic models.
Magnetized bases is a very good thing, i dont think i can afford magnetizing all those goblins. Either way, GW cases sound like a bad plan, since the Feldmarschalk backpacks, and other soft back packs like it, can be customized to suit regiments better, and can stack many regiments in the foam.

As an alternative to magnetization you can use thick double sided tape, It works for me.
then i just stack the regiments in a cookie box.
The only problem is the AoBR spear gobbos, they take up a large volume due to pointy bits, i get around this by placing an upsidedown unit of archer gobbos on top between the spears, this makes another level for stacking.
Buy a rifle case. Or, if you don't want to have a rifle case in your car or with you in the shopping mall (who does) then buy a big storage container with a lid, and some of the foam that they put under mattresses. The foam looks like the inside of an egg-carton. Put the models in the foam, put the layer in the case, and keep stacking. My friend did this, and he has over 400 models in the box that he bought, and still has room for more.
Thank you for the suggestions everyone.
Based on the responses I am starting to think that everyone transports their models loose (that is: not in regiments). Due to the number of models in this army I'm not comfortable with that - I have enough trouble with packing and unpacking loose lizardmen.
I think that I will look for a toolbox and fabricate some removable padded shelves. If it works I might upgrade the lizards too. Projects for the new year.
I was thinking about this the other day myself . I just bought a Styrofoam cutter the other day . what i am planning to do is take Styrofoam sheets 1 inch thick and cut holes in it similar to the gw ones . this will let me customize the storage trays to the individual models . and should protect them nicely . i was thinking i would just glue on heavy cardboard for the base of the storage tray . then just find some hard sided case to carry them in .
I haven't tried it yet but i think it will work , and it should be in expensive .
I just put two goblins in the same compartment, and I haven't really had a lot of trouble getting them out for battles. Then again, I only have 140 of them, is that too few?

I found a double decker toolbox online that I think would work well. I have to go to the store to see if it is actually suitable. I'll post pics whenever I get around to this one.
