So, I thought this'd be a good forum to present and discuss our ideas for bosses which either you thought would be interesting to try out, or have tried already and experienced success with.
It doesn't matter whether you define "success" as "powerful" or "loads of fun", because hopefully we'll get examples of both!
I'll start us off with two Goblin Big Bosses which I look forward to trying out in the near future:
Goblin Big Boss
Enchanted Shield, Sword of Might, Brimstone Bauble, Giant Wolf, Light Armour
This guy is meant for two jobs: hunting warmachines, and once he's copped a wound, running into the nearest danger unit and blowing up in the goriest, most destructive way possible. As such, his use is twofold: destroying the enemy warmachines and then, acting as a one-shot warmachine himself. A bit of fun but also powerful too.
This next one is pure fun:
Night Goblin Warboss
Giant Cave Squig, Wizard's Hat.
There is no way you can design a strategy around this guy, nothing about him is constant. Random lore, random spells, random movement. Pure unadulterated fun, I assure you. Last game I used him in he bounced his way across the board, blew up a knight unit with a fireball, then cavorted into another unit and promptly miscast, taking himself off the board and about 7 halberdiers with him.
So yeah, have you had any ideas for some powerful/useful/hilarious bosses you'd like to share? Here's your chance!
Effigy of Mork, Glittering Scales, Fencers Blades. (Potion of speed and GCS optional)
-2 to hit a WS 10 goblin, just to frustrate your opponent
Goes well with a unit with netters.... in theory, i haven't tried him yet.
Also, not a boss but fun anyway: NG Shaman with Madd's Map, some mushrooms and maybe collar of Zorga if you got the points.
"I'm in Ur deployment zone, Nuking your Manzz!"
Dwarf players get upset when you "Mork wants Ya!" their cannons on first turn (Sure dosent happen often, but hilarious when it dose!)
Haha, some crazy setups there.
Ive been wanting to try the magic carpet or maads map, but for now these are the setups ive had the most success (and fun) with.
Gobbo warboss (general)
great weapon, amulet of protectyness, tricksy trinket,
Cheap and effective, and leaves you 50 points to play with. Especially with all those tooled up characters with ward saves running around these days. Its so fun to say to your opponent "ill take that 1+ armour save and 4+ ward thanks".
Goblin big boss
wolf, wallopas one hit wunda, brimstone bauble, shield, light armour
Suicide gobbo, enough said
Night goblin big boss
giant squig, martogs best basha, guzzlas battle brew, charmed shield, collar of zorga
Controlled mayhem. Use him tactically and he can work wonders
I run these along with a BSB and a few cheap wizards for magic defence and im set.
Hah hah, loving the WS 10 Goblin I'd like to put him up against a Chaos Lord for funzies.
I was thinking, is there a boss build which could effectively be used for warmachine hunting? I'm finding that wolf riders are relatively expensive and not very reliable, thoughts?
I used a lord i just made. He is good against armies that dont use too much artillery like cannons or stone throwers. I played against skaven. Black orc warlord with heavy armor, enchanted shield, boar and shagas sword. When i went up against the skaven lord i had 8 strength 8 attacks and a 1+ armor save. Skaven lord didnt even inflict a wound and died in the first turn of combat
Alright, so with the new army book out for O&G, what character build do people prefer?
Right now im debating a black orc warboss with enchanted shield, talisman of preservation and either the stunty bashin axe, obsidian blade or sword of swift slaying. Cant decide on weapon. (3+ armor, 4+ward and whatever weapon i choose)
Black orc warboss with shield, armor of destiny, crown of command and gold sigil sword (4+ armor, 4+ ward, stubborn, attacks made at initiative 10 )
I'm quite happy with a Normal Orc Lord, Talisman of Preservation and crown of Command. He' pretty killy, tough and will keep his big'uns fightin' no matter if they all get duffed over. He's pretty damn cheap too.
I have wanted to try a Tag team of 2 Black Orc warbosses, one with the armour of Gork and the other with the battle axe of the last Waaagh. In one Death Star of Orcy bashiness. Or a goobo Warlord with the Wizards hat!!! A gobbo with life magic you say? Awesome!
I really, really like Goblin warbosses now. They add leadership to a unit (so you don't have to rely on Mr. General) and can kill some stuff too. I run 2 Gobbo warbosses, one with the Armour of Gork and an extra hand weapon, and one with the Ogre Blade, shield and Armour of Fortune. Good stuff.
If you want to have some unreliability fun, take a Savage orc warboss with the armor of gork on a wyvern. I can't get over the flying impact hits . Maybe give him an extra hand weapon for good measure, and you have yourself quite the killing machine. The only unfortunate thing is that if you take him in too small an army, he's forced to be your general and that's not always the greatest idea .
