Welcome to Librarium Online!
right then i had better put this out as it has been buzzing around my head for a while.
the other week i played in a 'battle royal' game, ok i know that the deployment zone is very small- its only 6" deep but my 2.5k army was the most spread out of all 4 armies and it got a little bit mad when it came to try and move things etc
now i was thinking of trying to make the army 'smaller' in terms of the number of units that i would deploy, it might sound mad but after due consideration it makes sense in my mind (i suspect that an aracnok spider could be joining the ranks...)
what do you think? has anyone tried a smaller force?
i dont know yet.. But i can definetly see where you're coming from, I've allways had issues with my greenskins when deploying i just don't have enough space and everybody wants to be standing next to the big chief. Also my games with green guys just take a little longer (rolling for animosity an stuff)
In the previous book MSU (elites army) was pretty much riding on the waaagh spell, which is gone. and now with the new book many things have become even cheaper so common sense tells me armies will be getting even bigger!
perhaps its time to ready the big guns and try 2 hordes of 30 black orcs.
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
One led by Grimgor for WS5 Black Orcs of doom.
Sounds playsable but you'd have to make all your untis dead 'ard with maybe a hero in each one to add LD and a bit of punch. Luckily Orc Bosses are cheap as chips now (55pts basic!) so you can pretty much aford to have one leading each unit, if not two.
How about fielding 2 or 3 'big' units then spend the rest on supporting units? By big units I mean, hordes of big'uns or units of 10 Trolls etc. Support units can be chariots (or indeed UNITS of chariots with a gobbo boss/warboss leading them???) squigs or what have you. Y'know, smallish units that are less likely to need the Generals Leadership and BSB re-roll.
^^I like your "big units" idea Borak. 10 trolls would be quite the (stupid) monster. The nice thing about some support units, well, the chariots, is that they don't bother with animosity. I've recently built 3 goblin chariots and happily they've gotten even cheaper.
