Maybe its because we had 8 magic items in almost each category, if not more, but i'm kinda disappointed.
Its not just the lack of unique selection that bothers me though, its the cost of most of the items, everything is 50+ and 3 100 cost items, and all 3 are random as Bawls.
IDK I just feel we can't customize our characters as much now. I miss the Akkrit Axe and Idol of Mork, and even the Kikkin Boots T_T.
Venting over, what do you guys think of the new selection, i like the Bash'a axe and the new Wand, but that's about it for me.
I think it sucks.
the versatility of the different magic items was one of the things i really liked when i started my goblins. But it might become the new trend. For al low point cost items you have to pick tomething from the brb, and there are a couple of magic items to suit the army. Being the first book of the new ed, i'm afraid we'll see this a lot more often.
this does change the goal of the game back on the troops you have, not on the shiny magical items your characters carry.

Well, considering we got an extra 81 Magic items to choose from in the rule book i'm not really bothered. Even before the new book came out I didn't use any of the OnG Magic items. Some of the Orcs n Gobbo items were pretty mediocre or rubbish anyway.
I think the new items are pretty cool, whilst fun, I'll probably never use them. Well not unless I play a 3k game and feel like a laugh. A tag team of 2 warbosses, one armed with the armour of Gork, one with the Battle Axe of the last Waaagh should be fun to use.
The magic items list does suck monstrously... only 8 to choose from... only one item I would use and that's the Lucky Shrunken Head...
I'm fine with it. Sure, there're things Ill miss (So long, Sneaky Staff...) but really it doesn't make sense to have endless magic items. O'n'G are on-the-whole a disorganised rabble, rampaging about the boondocks. Why do we manage to produce as many magic items as the High Elves, Masters of Sorcery, or the Empire with its endless workshops and wizard schools, or even the dwarves with their fancy-pants forges?
Nope. The core list plus an handful of home-produced gobbo items is fine. Consider the core list of items as stuff someone else has made and we've pinched. Along with their teef... heh heh heh.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!
I allways feel magic stuff is a bit ungreeny. A proper goblin doesnt hold on to his shiny stuff and anyway, it should snap/break within a week.
one hit wunda was really cool. Rest in pieces ol buddy
im a bit worried about the loss of the magic protection. Do you think the feedback scroll will be standard equipment now?

We don't make the stuff, we use whatever doesn't kill us in the process of... shall we say, 'acquiring' it...
Digger: comparatively, our anti-magic is heavily dented... dunno about most here, but previously I'd be running Mork's Spirit Totem and the Staff of Sneaky Stealin'... giving me 4 extra DD and -1 PD to the enemy... best case scenario for opponent, double 6... so that's 12 Dice for you, 6 for me... actually, that's 11 Dice for you and 10 for me...
Now, I'm hoping a Dispel Scroll and the Scroll of Shielding will help when it's needed... Scroll of Shielding especially, coz any big blocks you run will inevitably be targeted by "all models in the unit test against X, failure = DEATH" spells...
For me, ever since the new magic of 8th edition, running a level 4 shaman was pretty much compulsory.... now even more so...
I want to get access to multiple Loremasters without using the Arachnarok... if we can, let me know!!!
Now, lets be fair, that combo was pretty broken for 8th edition. We could, fairly cheaply, completely screw over an enemies magic phase or shut it down to the point of it being no threat what so ever. High Elves and lizards don't have that sort of defence and they're magicy armies, how would Orcs be that competant and magic defence? Nah, it needed changing.
We don't have low defence, just the same as everyone else.
xD great minds think alike, here in a Gobbo kind of way
The scroll of shielding doesn't work against the big doomy spells does it?
