this is arguably a strange topic/ request for advice but it might get some discussion going... i hear orcs and goblins are a hard army to play with and things dont go your way most the time and i see the points but my mates empire army has consistently lost to me and im begining to think he wont play with me anymore so to keep the warhammer going i need your best stratergies for losing without making it look like im trying to lose.....today i had the idea of going with a orc only + aracnarok coz its EXPENSIVE point wise and im trying to give him shooting and magic without me breaking his cannons and steam tank with bolt throwers and gorks feet stamping on stuff...
so combat only any other ideas on how to lose?
Do you maybe a have a horde of spider riders available? and make one of them your bsb with a cool wailing banner (Terror)!
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
maybe it would be better to give your friend some advice on how to win, rather than attempting to throw a game on purpose.
your point is valid ashen but obviously he cant just go out and buy £50 or mores worth of models when i tell him....he has a very odd list no more then units of 15 infantry units but he does have cannons
digger that is an idea i do have 25 spider riders
When you play him, why not let him proxy some stuff until he can afford to get it since you seem to say that his losing reflects a bad list that requires different models.
The legions of Palos[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
If you play at home, help him make a good army and let him use empty bases or other models to represent the actual models, until he gets the real thing. If he wins, he might be more inclined to buy them. Tell him to check out ebay for deals. In the meanwhile, give him some pointers etc
If you want to lose, try a totally new army list you have never played before. Make it fun. Use lots of goblins if you can, make it themed. Arachnarok, spider riders, goblins etc.
Warlord Grimtoof Dwarfchewer
check out my WAAAAGH!!! Grimtoof WiP here: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...-grimtoof.html
DwarfChewer valid point but thats what i do do but as he only kills about 7 of my men before i kill his 1.5k army he doesnt do well against 150+ goblins hence the orc only army this time so if he kills 7 then its more of my army gone xD
coz if i go goblin themed there is no way i can avoid any ranged which means he loses his cannons as a priority target so....good idea on the themed but im sticking to orc themed or fast cavelry themed for the squishy ness
Perhapse get him to put his army list up in the Empire Forum? Or do it for him? By the sounds of it he's relying to heavily on guns than actualy combat troopers. 15 State troops isn't going to kill anything, not even goblins.
If he's fighting horde armies then tell him to get Mortars. You can grab 3 for 225pts and they will tear apart goblin units. Then bulk up his state troops, 15 will never be steadfast and wont kill enough to win combat. do they last more than one round of combat? Probably not..........
As others have said, post his usual list and available models here (or actually, in the Empire section would probably be better). Let some of the Empire experts give some advice then allow him to proxy the models he doesnt own yet.
Once he has a decent list sorted, then try giving constructive advice while playing, maybe even agree on a handicap system (as it seems you are a lot more experienced than your friend) and lower your handicap as your friend gets more experience and the games become closer. Something along the lines of you starting with 2/3rd the points of your friend or giving yourself restricted deployment rules. A lot of rules you could introduce (without making the game to complicated) can even make the games you play a lot more fun. Maybe your friend likes to play a unit that doesnt stand up to well against your blocks of Ng's or Orcs but would work well when garrisoning a building, so, play a scenario where that unit starts garrisoned and you have to take the building.
Above all, I would stay open and honest. Imagine how your friend would feel if after winning a game or two and feeling really good about it, he found out you where actually letting him win.
Is there a local gaming club that you could both attend?
You could then watch others play and get some good tips that way. And also meet some other people to play against.
I returned to playing about a year ago, after about 15 years away from the hobby due to lack of spare time. I found myself losing every game I played at first, but, gradually my knowledge of the game increased.
I found that knowing my own army was only the first step towards winning games. All the loses helped me learn the capabilities of other armies and that was a huge help.
Will a massed mob of twenty spider riders do? I use them as fast flankers and they're not tough enough for that. I tend to have major batting collapses in front of Warriors and HE, but with 180 models at 2500 points I often win against Hordes with not many more models. I may be using too many models and not enough specials like Fanatics.
