my question is who would you take for you lord
I am very torn between the two as they are both so good but both have there downsides
amazing weapon of awesomeness
Ld10 with 18" inspiring presence
He is you BSB
bsb with 18" range
the cool animosity thing
take more then 1 unit of big un's
poor Initiative means he wont get to re-roll to hit against most lords and hero's
on a boar so no look out sir if in a unit of infantry
no ward save
He is you BSB (if you break from combat then he dies and if he dies you lose both ur lord and BS
can upgrade black orcs to immortals
once you pay for a BSB he is more expensive than Gorbad
can only take 1 unit of big un's
who do you think is better
for the 50 points in difference then i think gorbad is better but the fact that he can die from killing from a crossbow man and wont get a look out sir really worries me but big un's are so good for the extra point
i love gw for this, they have made 2 really good but not cheesy characters and made it so u can really only have one of them
I would take grimgor. I know that gorbad can make the orc army mroe elite and gives a great bonus to leadership, but leadership 9 is not bad either. The biggest downside, and basically my reason for not choosing grimgor is the lack of the look out sir roll for gorbad. If you put him in unit of boar boys, well the unit most likely wont last or will be off on the flank somewhere. The loss of a lord and bsb in one go is another thing. You could always give the crown of command to a boss and stick him in the same unit as gorbad to make the unit stubborn, but then again the no look out sir roll is pretty bad... unless you are fighting khorne, in which case gorbad would be the better choice to take.

I am gonna say Grimgor as well. I'm not sure which would perform better in an army, but Gorbad makes too many things necessary. I would only take Gorbad if I was completely certain I was going to take a lot of units of bigguns, at least 4 and 1 being boar boyz. Its too much too stress on how to keep him alive. Grimgor is much more simple. Hack, Slash, and kill. Not happy about losing 2 attacks though QQ. Also, based on pure fluff, take a look at Grimgor, he didn't make a WAAAGH!, it just came around him because he is so awesome. I don't know if I'll take him in too many serious armies any more though, thats a lot of points with the step up rule .
if i think that if i was playing very serious then i prob wldnt take either of them but i like there rules and i want a fun army to play so i think i will go with gorbad with 2 units of 50 big un's and 1 unit of 9 big un boar boys. if im up against a person with stone throwers etc then he goes in the boar boys but if not then he goes with my black orcs
i wish i cld pay like 50 points to have him taken off his stupid boar but nm
A) the BSB / General in seperate units to help your large (physically over the tabletop) army is good, and more survivable to boot.
Biguns are good, but not everything. Instead of that 2nd unit of biguns i'd rather have immortals.
- besides, are you going to make 2-3 units of biguns that you can't use without him? at that cost?
C) Grimgor rules. He's cooler than a dinosaur with sunglasses
