As it says in the heading,do armies comprised of all or mainly night goblin units still work?
I've got a fair few, (160 odd from skull pass) and havent done anything with they as of yet and got them realy cheap, but before i go out spending on reinforcing them with more gobbos and trolls etc, will an all NG army work or am i looking at having to field orcs aswell? I dont want an uber army, just one which is nice to play. However at the same time i dont want an army thats going to get walked over game after game.
Ld is where i think the issue could be, but could i get away with one orc as general and not have him in a unit or have him sat at the side of a unit. I have the AoW fat goblin boss so was thinking this guy would be great in case i have to take an or general, but not at all a fan of or units so would love to steer away from that option if possible. I do have black orcs but not a fan. If im forced i may get Common gobbos and put them on large bases to use as orcs.
Anyway, thanks for any info you can share.
I also play an all goblin army and it is still pretty viable.
Ok, it won't win you many battles, but it sure won't get steamrolled.
With the new BSB rule and steadfast NG units don't suffer as much from their poor leadership as they used to be.
Also you can just field a Boss (or 2) in every unit you field just to boost the leadership, and get a few high strength attacks.
I usually field one or two large units (~50) of Night Goblins spears.
2 units of 20 archers (as Decoys)
10-20 Wolf/Spider riders devided in 2-3 units
Couple of Wolf Chariots (I like to field 2 units of 2 chariots)
Bunch of warmachines.
Occasionally my arachnarock spider will also hit the table, but i haven't seen him do anything really usefull yet. But i think that's mostly because my opponents focus a lot of their units on it.
Units i try not to use:
Units i haven't talked about is because i don't own them, so i have no experience playing with them. (though i'm tempted to make a mangler squig soon )
If you want more advice on the army i think it is usefull to make an army list and post it here(or in the army list section) to get some more feedback.

All night goblin, not too sure if that will work, mainly becuase of our leadership and everything in the game that causes panic, how ever my full goblin list does work
goblin wolf chariot squads are amazing, 3D6+3 inpact hits at S5 for for under under 200 points is amazing. mix that up with gobo shooting, and its a fairly funny list.
If you do decide that you are not going to create an all goblin army, I would be more than happy to buy the little buggers from you to bolster my own...
I've been running all night goblins for over a decade, and I really like it more now with 8th than with previous editions. The best thing about the whole leadership issue is remembering that the out-ranking your opponent rule and that you don't loss CR by more than your base Ld. Also, the whole spirit of the OG army, especially with all night goblins is that either you're going to own with your sneaky tricks and tactics or you're gonna wipe gloriously. They are night goblins after all.
I was wondering something pretty simmilar to saltrock36...
What is wrong with squig units? They seem very night gobbo-like to me, do they not play very well??
What do people run in their night gobbo units? Maximum amount of netters and fanatics?
How does the gobbo lore measure up now?
Sorry, haven't played NG since the previous book came out. Hope you don't mind me asking a few question here to avoid multipl very simmilar threads

I am President of the Brunel University wargames society - PM me if interested.
I am new to O&G and would like to know the answers to these questions too.
I play Empire and Dwarfs so I have a competitive army covered. What I want is a horde of short green things. Do they work well? (also, the questions above)
Wash: This landing is gonna get pretty interesting.
Mal: Define "interesting".
Wash: [deadpan] Oh God, oh God, we're all going to die?
"Working well" can be defined in many different ways...
I run an all goblin list myself, and I do well most of the time and have fun every time!
The Standard of Discipline is your friend as it can make up for low leadership, and character spam works since they cost so little.
Run some BIG units in the middle (you want ten ranks deep and as wide as you can afford), and Ld immune units on the flanks (giant, pump wagons, squigs etc).
Attrition is the only way to win a game so bring alot of chariots, alot of spear chukkas and two doom divers.
Iv'e had some luck with bows when I get of the poison spell f.x. but I like to go all spears.
One unit of regular goblins with skulkers is also a good choice to take out enemy characters.
Use buffs and hexes to aid your little guys and play dirty! It completely fits the Goblin fluff
