Im sorry If this is a commonly asked question, but Im not sure which to buy, I like the models equally and Im running a gobbo heavy list and am looking for some heavier infantry to back em up, which do you guys suggests/ prefer and what size regiment would you run as well as how do you like to equip them??, Thanks in advance!!
20 black orcs and a black orc big boss is a hard hitting unit that can take damage and is reliable to do what you need it to do, if you like how it plays 'Da Immortulz' upgrade you get with one of the named characters is quite handy as they get all the black orc rules + a few more like Hatred (Everything!) and the cost of the unit is factored into the cost of the character. Savage orc's look great but aren't much better than normal orc boy's, suffer from animosity often, charge into random units because of frenzy, get squished often because of lack of armour and although the big stabba is fantastic it's not worth getting the unit for as most opponents will keep their vulnerable stuff clear of it.
If you really want savage orcs, be a bit different and make them as archers, their shooting is as good as the rest of the things in the army and they can hold up their own in combat just as good as an orc with melee weapons, the other added bonus is being archers they will not be close enough to most things to run off and charge it. I'd still stick with goblins though, both financially and game terms they are cheap and cheerful and get the job done
I would have to agree that Black orcs are in a different category over savage boys. Black orcs are mean and will stand their ground as they are suppose to. Plus the addition of a banner to them will make them a force of their own on the table.
thanks guys, I had purchased a black orc box for these reasons glad to see I made the right choice one quick question on black orcs, If I buy them shields and opt to use 2 hand weapons that round I know I do not benefit from parry saves, but do I still get the +1 Armor shields grant normally??
yes and no, I always played it as if you lost it purely for the challenge of deciding when it'd be a good idea to be offensive or defensive but as far as the rules are concerned if you pay for shields then you've got the benefit of having a shield whether it makes sense or not.
Thank you, That creates alot more options, Anyone have any suggestions for equipping a blork big boss/ Lord, there are alot of options and Im not sure weather to go dmg tank, or an offensive hero

armour of gork is very impressive if your wanting to avoid core items, another setup is enchanted shield, armour of fortune and sword of bloodshed (which does max out his magic item allotment so be careful if you have other lords and hero's that you want to gear up in your army, although to be honest if your army is predominantly goblins having a black orc warboss with good survivability and lots of attacks is a good idea
cant you only pick one item from each or the magic items section???another setup is enchanted shield, armor of fortune and sword of bloodshed
i find the savage orcs, though a little more unreliable, are better for damage output in serious a way. to make them worth while, though, lucky shrunken head, additional choppas, and the big un upgrade are a must.
i find that the heavy armor on the blorcs is rarely enough to keep them alive, and they are too expensive for deep ranks, though i think they look cooler than the savage orcs.
go savage, even naked savage orcs will perform better for less points. unmodifiable save, immune to psych, and frenzy. no contest.
hmm,my friends and i just go about it logically, as in you can wear a shield and a suit of armour but you can't wear 2 suits of armour. the rules are a lot stricter than that and say you can only have one so drop the shield it's only 5 points anyway ^^ Apologies i should bear in mind that house rules over complicate things
