Hey guys looking for advice on how I should go about outfitting my Warboss, I am caught between a damage sponge, or a Melee Monster. I have tried a mix and It didnt excell at one or the other effectively :/
Also is it worth the upgrade to a Black orc Warboss as he has another point in WS and comes with hvy armor?? Thanks in advance!
When selecting a green-skin leader I find the only thing that matters is his Leadership value. Your gonna get him some magic armor and a magic sword, so the original equipment doesn't matter that much. I've had HUGE success with my tiny goblin warboss and just more troops rather than spending 300 pts on one model.
If you want a slayer, go for savage orc warboss with potion of str and sword of blood shed.
If you want a tank, go with black orc on boar, with 4+ ward armor, shield, crown of command and dawnstone, and charge him out of his unit as soon as possible. He has 2+/4+ saves with a re-roll, usually only gets hit on 4s or 5s due to ws7, and is stubborn so he doesn't get run down. Good for taking down low leadership monsters, like hydras, hellpits and big spiders: charge him in when they step out of their general's Ld bubble, get a couple of wounds in and run them down!
By the way--> Fabled Outlaw: nice paint on your blog!
thank you much! I have done alot more on the Boss Ill have to put that up later, Also I have some black orcs on the way.
As for the warboss its kinda like outfitting a warboss in 40k on a bike, when you get close to a unit that cannot handle so much raw cc ability just run them down, I think Ill have to try that out.
With such good saves, your opponent rarely gets any combat res in with his monsters so as long as you charge you can consistently win such battles by one. That means break tests on 5s and 6s for most monsters (not stubborn giants though!).
I like going a different way for the sponge, black orc with tricksters helm and talisman of protection so he cant be touched by infintry and even monsters can have difficulty against him with having to reroll sucessfull to wound rolls. As hes a black orc he comes with a great weapon so he can beat down enamies too.
That actually looks like a really fun build!
With Tricksters helm + heavy armor + shield + boar you can have an armor save of +1
then with the amulet you get a +4 ward save
and then your attacker has to hit agains WS7 and reroll any wounds that get through his T5 !!!
He also has the option for shield, great weapon or dual HW which gives him flexibility
possibly dishing out five STR 6 attacks + a STR 5 attack from the boar.
Immune to psychology, Ld 9...
I LIKE IT!!!
(Comes up to 287 pts though)
Without the crown of command though, this guy is in danger of being run down on static combat resolution. Three ranks + banner = 4 so with the charge he would need 3 kills guaranteed every time. Probably better against solo heroes and monsters.

Yeah he is a bit expensive but he shouldnt die in combat, the only way he should die is if he flees in which case he deserves in the no good git.
So do you guys have any good cheap slayer builds for a lower point game?

Yeah! Make him round, attach him to another model of similar size with a chain, and run them through units causing 2D6 impact hits
Unbreakable, -1 to shoot at, can't be charged, and only 65 pts!
Like I said earlier: Characters are for leadership in my army
