Fe Fi Fo Fum, is a giant any good to run? Hi so I havn't really played fantasy since 6th edition but have recently pulled out my night goblin force to go up against a new friend. I happen to have two giants, I was wondering how terrible of a desicion it would be to run them both just to touch 2500? My army is predomonatly core otherwise. 4 Units of 50 NG's at the center with all the fixins. So I guess are giants any good these days? Is having two, a big redundant point sink?
Giants from what I have heard are good against large monsters not so great against hordes, so would depend on what your facing
Hopefully Giants being Monsterous Creatures also benifit from Thunderstomp, making them alot better than they used to be, but somthing tells me that they dont, in which case GW has missed an opertunity if thats the case. Im sure they must but i cant remember seeing it as a rule under giants in my O&G book.
1 is a good distraction if you have somthing else in your army you dont want to get shot up on turn 1, like for instance a chariot or small troll unit etc, but 2 can ruin someones day. They die easy enough to big guns and even medium guns and shouldnt expect to win a combat alone, but used in conjunction with a large block unit, having the giant come in from a flank with its extra speed, can be nasty. I would say run them together if your taking 2, but then you have to constantly make sure a cannon cant hit them both at the same time and that they dont fall on each other and kill each other.
Most O&G rare choices these days go to some stone throwers to help whitle down the enemy units and target thier big monsters, so giants dont get much of a lookin these days.
I believe the brb says that monsterous creatures have thunderstomp, I don't have the book with me so I can't check.
All monsters have thunderstomp yes, Giants are no exception to the rule.
I use one whenever i can, it´s value has definetly improved since the previous edition.
- In the past the giants were famous for dieing before reaching the enemy lines, usually because everything shot at the giants.
With the new book there are so many other juicy targets in our army to shoot at that giants are no longer a priority. The new charge ranges also work in their favor.
this does mean however that to make a giant work, you will need other units that are targets aswell, such as manglers (these attract more bullets than a black hole!) chariots/chariotunits, doom divers, pump wagons, mounted characters or war machine hunters. Your army sounds like it is low on that but who knows make a list and see
As mentioned allready, our rare-points is very popular, so Giants have to share their spot with other great stuff in the rare section, all very cheap, but as i bring many, it starts stacking up. 2 Giants is indeed a big chunk out of the allowance.
I'd say bring 1 because he will rock your socks off. Do you have other stuff instead of the second one?
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
Run them! giants may not be "super competitive" but they are just really fun to play with as you get to see them tear into units and do random unpredictable things.
I always enjoy having them in my games.
And a giant against any large creature its size will kill it nine times out of ten.
