Not sure if anyone has tried this out yet but I was considering grabbing a cheap Gobbo Warboss with the wizards hat. It's probably not the best use of points but when you start to think of some of the combinations we can get it starts to get a bit mental. Flesh to stone on Orcs/Trolls/Giant? The Lore of light? Orcs with init10? Wildform from Beasts? Even Lore of metal has some fun. I can't think of any Lore that really doesn't have some nice spells for us. Especially all the Signature spells.
Ok, it is expensive (155pts for a hatted Ngoblin), and you become stupid so you have to stay near the general. Worst of all........ it's random as hell but considering all the random movement, animosity and so forth I've accepted Random as an occupational hazard.
What say you?
It definitely is a fun option that has the potential to be very nasty.
The real big problem is that you are down 155 points in your Lords category where you need to get a tough General and at least another wizard (Need Ld9 and gotta have the Lore of the Big Waagh for the Orcs). So, provided you are playing a higher end points level and have the points to spare then yes it is a potentially very solid option.
Aye, I was thinking of just chucking one in at 2500. I already have a Lord level caster who does the main muscle work. Although, haven't had much luck with spells from the big Waaagh to be fair. Only bash 'em lads and foot of Gork are highly useful. Gobbo spells seem far more cool.
I tried it out yesterday and it was really fun, I got Fire magic and the Fireball was rather useful, taking out two units alone. But I only now realized I forgot about stupidity. So I need to try again next week.
I use the hat alot in my "all goblin" army.
In an all goblin army your best bet is to run with a bunker anyway, so I tend to keep a warboss and BSB WAY in the back.
I find it a waste to buff them for combat when I don't want them to ever have to throw a punch.
So I usually take a Wiz hat Warboss + STD of Discipline BSB to get more spells and a Ld9 bubble.
And you are right: every single spell lore can benefit goblins, except lore of Death!
Sweet! Nice to know you guys are having some fun with it! I'm still trying to work out how to fit mine into a 2500pt army! So many fun toys to take it gets a little hard I dunno about the Lore of Death though. Only spirit leech can be bum. Fear/Terror Causing units can be handy and Soul Blight is good against everything (combined with Nets? Ouch!). I really like the Idea of Beats though. Wildform is pretty sweet as a Sig spell.
