Welcome to Librarium Online!
Just wondering whether anyone might have any particular suggestions for a cheap, low point Goblin army. I love goblin magic, so a shaman instead of a big boss would be preferred, but I haven't played Goblins before so I don't know what I'm doing really. I'm probably going to be up against Dark Elves more often than not, so bear that in mind. Ideally, no orcs would be used, but really I'm just looking for some general suggestions as to what you'd field if you were trying to get the cheapest (money-wise), most efficient 500 point army you could to fight a 500 point DE army.
Shaman lvl2 with double doin doodas
A unit of 30 goblins with full command and light armour
a chariot and maybe a spear chukka
5 wolf riders with spears shields and musician
That's decent enough. Add something you like for the rest of it, like a pump wagon.
Chekc out the super-fantastic-and-generally-amazing goblin guide. Find it in Wicked's link or in the tactics section.
Besides that, my suggestion is:
Shaman level 2 , double dooi'n doo-daahs
2 units of goblins, at 20 each, one with spears and one with light armour-shields. This is because if you are playing border patrol (500 points) then 20 is the maximum unit size (if I'm not completely wrong) :hmm:
A wolf chariot with extra crew and spears
a pump wagon
and last but not least a block of snotlings - these little buggers are very useful in small games, they can hold up his small units so your large ones can hit em in the flank. You will have this possibility because with the snotling you will have one more unit that most 500 point armies.
I kill two dwarves in the morning, I kill two dwarves at night. I kill two dwarves in the afternoon, and then I feel allright. I kill two dwarves in time of peace, and two in time of war. I kill two dwarves before I kill two dwarves, and then I kill two more.
Goblin kroozade of revengyness: win:19 draw:10 loss:9
Definitely check out the gobbo guide, it's really good.
Against DE (or any pointy eared freaks for that matter ), it's important that you outnumber them to minimise the effects of the fear that they cause in you as well. Shouldn't be too hard to do considering the high points value of DE models, but something to keep in the back of your mind when you're making a list.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.

L2 Gobbo Shaman w/ Ditto's Double Doing Doo-Dahs 115 pts
30 Gobbos, light armour and full command 125 pts
Spear Chukka 35 pts
Wolf Chariot 70 pts w/spears and extra crew
3x River Trolls 180 pts
Total = 510 points
That's the army I'm considering fielding. It's slightly over, but I figure my friends will most likely let me away with that. Most common armies I'm going to be fielding are VC and DE, so I quite like the idea of having trolls to mince through all those low T enemies, but I'm not at all opposed to removing them from my army if you feel they aren't going to be capable of earning back their value.
Anyone got any suggestions? Oh, and how should I make use of my Goblin Shaman in this battle? Have him running around behind the main lines as an independant character, or with one of the units?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Late post, but i like your list and i know trolls are awesome but with a goblin shamens LD you wont be passing your stupidity other than that it looks great!
wait maybe get rid of the spear chukka and replace the trolls with A GIANT, it may be cheesy but it would work sooooo well!!!!! then that would bring your point around :shifty: to 510 again.

I quite like giants, but more so in a large battle against similarly large creatures. 2D6 wounds with no armour save half the time against creatures of the giant's size is not something that's easy to pass up. However, I think that having one large unit that takes up close to half my army's points is probably not a good idea. It would be somewhat unfair to unleash on skeletons, and against DE would probably just provoke them into outcheesing me with a super-shooty army that decimates my giant before I've even really started. I see your point about the Trolls though, not entirely sure what I should replace them with.
Replace the spear chukka and the trolls maybe for some snotling swarms , because they are always great for tying dpown expensive units , or maybe another night/goblin regiment if you want or wolf riders but im leaning towards snotlings as i love them, i usuallly have about 9 bases in 2000.Or mix what i just said together?

Think I should use hand weapon, shield and light armour or some set up involving spears for my army? I figure that since I'm going to be up against low-T enemies, having millions of (normally pathetic) goblin attacks actually might work pretty well. But then again, there's the decrease in defensive capability, and the increase in cost if I still want to have light armour.
And a thought occurs... is there no rule against having two lords in a 500 point match? This won't be border patrol, because I don't think anyone is going to try to force me to play with only 20 goblins in use.
If there's no rule like that then having a goblin big boss leading my unit of goblins (and working as the army's general), and bolstering the unit size up to 40 might work a bit better, I've got to work to counteract fear here.
Oh, and a quick few scraps about what my brother (the VC player) will most likely be fielding:
Lahmian vampires (definitely)
Spirit Hosts (probably)
2x Skeleton units, 20 each (maybe, might be too expensive for his liking. I think he'll keep the numbers down at around 20 though)
Probably won't field necromancers - at least until he realises the folly of that decision (hahah! Magic dominance is mine!
Might field a black coach (EEP!!
I'm thinking that to counteract this, I might equip the goblin big boss with nibbla's itty ring (knock a few wounds off his vampire before combat), wollopa's one hit wunda (7 strength, letting me demolish his black coach if he takes one and I get good rolls. Failing that, just use it to beat up his general) and the talisman of protection (Just in case of any dirty tricks where a ward save is my only chance, not entirely sure whether it's worth taking but I can't really see it hurting.)
Might switch the talisman of protection to enchanted shield, though.
I think that your brother wouldnt put the black coach in as it takes 200 points of 500.
you cant have lords in 500 points but you can have big bosses to lead your gobbos, i would have a goblin shamen and a cherap big boss, with light armour and a great axe for some killing.
