Goblin Battle Standard Question?

Trying to see if i'm reading a rule correctly. I am equipping one of my Big Bosses with a Battle Standard.
question 1:
If i read the rule correctly I cannot use his leadership for rolling break tests, so i am using my general's leadership 6 for all break tests and not his 7. If his unit breaks can I use his leadership of 7? Is this correct?

question 2:
Hero's can have 50 points of magic items, does the battle standard count towards war gear?

question 3:
If my asumption of the rules is correct and I can't use the battle standard bearer's leadership for anything, should i make him a Night Goblin Big boss, equip him with the Battle standard and Madcap mushrooms and put him in a fanatic unit?

I hate starting new armies.

I thought the model with the highest leadership in the game had to be the army general.

A hero can have 50 points worth of magic items. However if he carries a magic banner it can exceed the 50 points but he can have no other magic items except for the banner.

That is what I believed, then in the army book it says cannot be army's general which leads me to believe that you can't use it for other unit leadership checks???

Your General cannot be the battle standard bearer, and if the highest leadership is the battle standard bearer, then the next highest leadership model will be the general. only the unit the battle standard bearer is in can use his leadership, and if the general is fleeing this still applies.

if you take a magical banner, you cant take any other magical items

so yes that's a good idea but the 'fanatic' unit is often very weak, which isnt a good idea because of the extra vp for taking the battle standard. so beef up the fanatic unit.

I was considering either block of 25 spear gobos with shields and full command, or 40 hand weapon shield gobo's with full command.

however, for cheesy pointy-heads like me, your BSB can be your general if u get lucky.

i believe woodelves battle standard bearer can be their general. but who would want that, a general with no items except light armour and if you give him a magical banner no other magical items as well.

much better idea. if it's going to be a fanatic unit give them hand weapon shield for 4+ combat save.

Can't use the Big Red Raggedy Banner.... playing Night Goblins, I could make them stubborn... but stubborn at leadership 6 doesn't seem with it for 60 pt banner.
