i would like to ask for assistance for my chum. he has a orc gathering, about 1300p and its in all its glory has lost nearly allits games, last game he killed ONE handgunner of mine. you might think, why the hell are you posting to help him, well i want close games, and i also want my m8 to not quit. 2000p
he has one unit of big uns with two hand weapons.
2 orcs with 2handweapons
1 with shields
ten gobbo wolf ridders
orc big boss (drogs and great weapon)
two shamens (theyre dead anoying, but he never gets those extra power dice for being close to combat)
three rock lobbas
two spear chukkas
any help for him would be great. he dosnt realy wana spend a tonne on boar boys.
he fights my empire army, stand and shoot dudes. and bretonnias with 6 peg knights nad terror causing hypogriffon. thanks alot DJ87
The First thing I see is that he needs more units of orcs, black orcs and regular boyz, they are the bulk of the army.
he should try units size of 30 or 35, as he needs to test for panic as little often as possible.
rock lobbaz are terrible, spear chukkaz do much better.
Chariots will help him alot greatly, as they can cause havoc at a cheap price.
A black orc big boss will be quite helpful with the Ld 9 and quell animosity, keep this in mind.
Hope I helped a bit, gotta go fast.
I agree with Wolfpack. Also he might consider savage orcs, I find them to be devastating. Also, don't let him foorget the power of gobbos. These can be amazing in large numbers.
i am ubermoose; his orcy chum
1st: I think I do have a lot of core in my army bear in mind its 1300 points and I have 4 units of 20 orcs 1 of which being big uns. Also in combat 35 orcs instead of 20 are pointless as I lose my rank bonus to his detach ments I I would have to have at least 35 to get outnumbering bonus. Although I will keep it in mind when I fight the brets.
2nd: I have tried rock lobbas and I have trried spear chukkas and I have to say that I prefer the lobbas. They are far more devastating when they hit [about he same amount of hits as chukkas] and they are a lot more useful at killing blocks of troops, unlike chukkas [hitting up to 16 models!!!].
3rd: for the chariots, I have not tried them yet and I will have a go with them next battle.
4th: I have tried a black orc big boss but at 1300pts it would mean sacrificing a shamen which I cant afford to do. I have still to look into using a battle standard bearer but that will make my general worse in combat and troops within 12 will not get his ld.
To hellfire: I will defiantly try out a few units of gobos. It will also give my army more reason to use gobo shamens instead of orc ones
well at 2000 pts, the black orc war boss is worth it, as ou can have him and 2 shamans. charge is detachments if you don't want them to clip, you. if he flees, you ca redirect your charge to the main block aterwards. chariots are also great to get rid of detachments.
35 strong also makes it hader to take painc tests for 25% losses to shoting and magic.
try night goblins with 3 fanatics and bows, they are quite effective for the point cost.
i dont suppose anyone has tried these beasts. i have been reading through ubermooses BRB and i found a uber unit. take a unit of Savage orc big uns with spears. (5 wide gets you 21 attacks, thats, 2 each 3 for champ) then give them nogs banner of butchery. oh yes you get 31 attacks. youve got to admit thats awrsum :p
you never get 2 attacks from the second rank with spear, even when frenzied or with the banner of butchery
If you really wanted to smash things up then you could just get a decent sized group of Savage Orc Boar Boyz and then you can get the bonus attacks for the boars on their S5 charges... and that way you don't have to sacrifice a hero slot, not to mention your BSB just to get a one-use 25 point banner.
EDIT: Oh, and then get a hero with Porko's Pigstikka and *really* smash up those chewy ranked units on your charge. Or you could just use other units and not spend a good 200+ points on a unit that is going to be one of the biggest fire targets in the history of all Orckind. That said, I'm prolly going to stick one of those into my army for a nasty surprise against Vampire Counts, who don't have any archery to soften up such a unit with.
EDIT2: My mistake, didn't realise that Big'Uns also get to carry a 50 pt banner. But I'd still rather have a more mobile unit if it's going to be a points sink that demolishes an enemy unit on the charge.

where does it state that you do not get any extra attacks from the second rank??? my local GW staff said that there is no rule saying that you cannot get the second or further attacks from the second rank. banner of butchery states, additonalo attack from all fighting ranks, and as the second rank are fighting they get a additonal attack. the flaw with them is that they are frenzied and have to move towards the enemy all the time.
i am not a orc player but i have access to the book.
You do get additional attacks from a second of spears when you have not moved that turn. The only exception is that when you charge into a unit, on the turn that you charge in only your front rank will get to fight (under rules for spears in the WHFB BRB you lose one rank's worth of attacks). On subsequent turns they will be able to fight in ranks as normal.
Hope that this clarifies the issue for you.
The iron crowned is getting closer,
Swings his hammer down on him,
Like a thunderstorm he's crushing,
Down the Noldor's proudest king.
Under my foot, so hopeless it seems.
You've troubled my day, now feel the pain.
