Okay. One of my good friends whom I play against most of the time plays an Empire army. He usually takes 1 cannon, 1 mortar, 1 helblaster for artillery. For infantry, he takes 2 swordsmen units (20 models each), both with full detachments. 1 detachement of 5 handgunner, 2 of 10 halberds, and another 10 swordsmen. He has 5 Inner Circle Knights with lances. He has a Captain in each of his parent units of swordsmen. I can never beat him. I think I've played at least 10 times against him, and I've got massacred every time. His cannon snipes my characters and warmachines, his Knights always flank me (i tried to stop them with boar boy big 'uns, but alas, they got skewered on their lances), his mortar destroys my infantry. I've only actually made it to his units infantry once, and i killed 5, but he struck back with all his detachments and stuff, and killed 3. He had something like 8 or 9 combat res from his ranks and stuff, and I only had five. He ran the unit of 27 orcs down. One game, I tried concentrating on his detachments with magic, so he couldn't counter charge. It worked effectively, but i had no infantry left by the time I got there thanks to that damn (excuse my french) Mortar. HALP!
take some wolfriders and fantics...besides, how much pts do u play with?
I have 3 fanatics and 2 units of 5 wolfriders on the flanks. He always manages to get my goblins to flee with shooting, even if they are near the general. It's quite annoying. The last game, he blew up a rock lobber and the goblins pissed themselves and ran. We usually play in 1000-1500 points. I'm starting to make up my horde army though, and I'm pretty sure it will beat him. 2k points, 2 units of 20 normal gobbos, 2 units of 20 NG with 3 Fanatics each, 1 unit of 25 orcs, 1 unit of 25 orc biguns, 1 unit of 25 blorcs, 2 wolf chariots, and 2 units of 5 wolfriders. I got the strategy from DaWarpath (Checkerboard)Originally Posted by skavenröra
Empire is tough with orcs and goblins. They can get a good number of troops while still being able to field great war machines. Shy of fielding an entire army of mounted troops my recommendation is to take 4 goblin wolf chariots or so. It only comes to 240 points leaving you a good chunk of points left for everything else and they should be able to hit the war machines on turn 2. It will only count as 2 special choices leaving you good options left. Another option is to take war machines of your own and just hope you get lucky dice rolls and take out his war machines....which now that I say it...sounds really dumb...making it great greenskin tactics
Oh, another side note...all goblin armies can fair pretty good too...there are just too many models for them to handle. If you field a horde of units of 30 goblins (night and common) they really can't do much to stop you. Use all magic heroes and a shaman lord cause let me tell you...foot and warpath of gork really do a number on warmachines and crew.

Try taking some trolls! they are fast if they dont fail stupidity tests and their regeneration makes them good absorbers of missilefire. Cannonballs can make, say 4 wounds on a troll with the d6 multiple-wound but on a 4-6 the wounds are recovered. About two wounds. No troll dead, cannon shot wasted. keep them near the general or they are worthless.
