Well, first of all, I did do a search and I still have a few questions. First of all, is o&g capable of having useful shooting units that cover my block infantry?
How do you guys usually equip your orc boyz?
How many in a unit? 20 with hand weapons?
How bout goblins? how about 20 with spears and fanatics?
Are bows any good?
What war machines do you guys use? Best missle units?
Lastly, what heroes do you use? Shamens, orc bosses? I'm aiming for a balanced list btw.
Oh, last thing for sure this time, what's the difference between normal orcs, black orcs and savage orcs?
I don't play O&G but i know a few things. Goblins i have found normally in 20-40 strong. With spears and of course fannies(fanatics). I see alot of 2 choppas orc boyz about 20-25 strong. I have no clue about the difference between orcs. To me orcs are orcs no matter what. Orc players help me out this is just what i have seen

1. Is O&G capable of having useful shooting units?Originally Posted by lordnoobs
Goblin Wolf Riders are Fast Cavalry and can have bows, which is useful. Bolt Throwers (Spear Chukkas) are nice and the Goblin Doom Diver is awesome (like a stone thrower, but does a little more damage in a smaller area and can re-roll the scatter dice!). In my experience, Goblin bows or Orc bows are not really worth it.
2. How do you usually equip your orc boyz? How many in a unit?
I prefer two hand weapons for the extra attack, but with Hand Weapon and Shield you could get a 4+ armour save. You should get at least 20.
3. How about Goblins?
Goblins should come in units of 40+. They have bad leadership, bad save and bad toughness, so die quickly. With a unit of 20, if 5 die then the unit is running. With 40, your enemy would have to kill 10 in one turn. Personally in my Night Goblin army I usually use units of 50 or 60 with 3 fanatics.
I always arm my Night Goblins with Spears and Shields, and Common Goblins with Light Armour, Hand Weapons, Shields (for that 4+ save - on a goblin! These are known to players as 'Ardgrots).
4. Are bows any good?
5. What about War Machines?
As mentioned, Bolt Throwers are always useful, and the Goblin Doom Diver is fantastic and fun!
6. Best missile units?
As mentioned, the only missile units I think are worth it are Goblin Wolf Riders with bows. Ruglud's Armoured Orcs (a Dogs of War/Regiment of Renown) are orcs in Heavy Armor and Crossbows and are great if you can afford them.
7. What heroes do you use?
In my Night Goblin army I use a Night Goblin Great Shaman, 3 Night Goblin Shamans and 2 Night Goblin Big Bosses. (All-goblin armies can have extra hero slots!) This is a very magic-heavy army and is very risky. One or two miscasts could very well lose you the game.
Sometimes I like to take a Black Orc Warboss, which effectively stops Animosity in half my army. But this guy takes up a Lord and a Hero so you really have to work your list around it.
8. Shamans or Bosses?
If you are taking a Shaman, take a Night Goblin Shaman. Night Goblin shamans get a Magic Mushroom for free (basically a Power Dice, which you can add after you rolled for your spell if you wish). NG Greater Shamans get D3 of these.
A Black Orc Big Boss or Warboss is great because he stops Animosity near him, but they take up two slots.
I prefer playing a magic-heavy army so I take lots of shamans, but it's preference.
9. What is the difference between Orcs, Savage Orcs and Black Orcs?
Orcs can wear armour and can carry missile weapons.
Savage Orcs cannot wear any armour (but can carry shields), cannot use missile weapons. But they have frenzy and a 6+ Ward Save.
Black Orcs are tougher, can wear Heavy Armour and can carry Great Weapons. They do not suffer Animosity. They cannot use missile weapons.
Hope this helps!

Orcs with bows is no good. Goblins with bows are worse. The only shooting in the army should be from warmachines. Orc boyz go best with shield and spears, but its a bit expensive and lousy on the charge. Choppa and shield sucks, orcs cant use the +1 arm.save for using shield and handweapon since they have choppas. Twohandweapons is good. Good on the charge, and there is new rules comin up for choppas in 7th ed. Rumours is that they will get +1 str even if they have two handweapons. Goblins are always best in huge groups. Try 40. And for the heroes/lords: If you are doing all gobbo, then do as Ravendove said. If not, then its Nightgoblins as shamans and common orcs as bosses. But if you have savageorcs in the army, then a sav.boss could do well there. I take an orc warboss, 2 nightgoblinshamans and a savage orc big boss, to go thump with the sav.boar boyz. If you really want shooting, then its Rugluds armored orcs that can do the job, without looking odd in an orcarmy. Marksmen of Miglano ( dunno how to spell it) are better shooters, but its a major drawback for the armys look....
Well, I'm waiting for the new codex before I get anything, but I was thinking of the following for a 1k list. I'm not sure if it's too much or too little, just what I think will work or looks good.
Night goblin shamen
orc big boss
2 squads of 5 spider riders,
29 orc boyz with choppa and sheild full command
20 night goblins with spears
20 night goblin with spears
1 orc boar chariot
2 spear chukkas
1 Doom diver.
Would this be closer to 1.5k? Also with the goblins, would it be better to have 1 unit of 40? Also, I was planning to get the battle of skull pass, and I was wondering if I could have extra bitz to have 60 spear gobbos, instead of 40 and 20 with bows?
Lastly, is this a good list? What would you use instead?

No I saw the bitz and the gobbo come in one piece so it's hard to modelize them.
Pretty good list, but group the nightgobbos into one big unit. (40) and then you will end up with 20 archers. Thoose should be ranked up pretty wide and given fanatics.
Hmm, maybe I should go with boyz with spears and sheilds instead? I'll be getting a 5+ save either way. Or should i save the more expensive equipment for big'uns? Also, what do you use to represent big'uns?
Lastly, what models are you guys sure of that's not changing?
shield bonuses will be given to chopas. Fact not rumor. Other changes are that black orc characters are going to one hero slot, and new animosity, but i wont get into rules.
E-bay helps us all!
