Hey are night goblins with bows useful?

Yes and no. Gobbo shooting in general isn't going to devestate an army. A pathetic range of 16" coupled with a bog-standard strength and BS of 3 means that while they can cause some casualties at range, it's rare that they'll even cause a panic test, meaning they'll get charged, and then comes the pain because you won't have much of a rank bonus.
However, night gobbos can throw out a fanatic screen, meaning that they can keep the enemy away from them for a longer time in order to maximise their fire. However, there are a few problems. First is that the fanatic screen could easily turn around and smash the gobbos, which has the dual effect of removing the screen (fanatics are behind you now) and making the enemy's job easier. The second is that large enemy units can just punch past the fanatics anyway, or in the new book, kill them outright and then charge next turn. And finally, we come back to the problem of gobbo shooting being pretty crappy. Plus of course, with the new animosity rules, it's quite possible for your gobbos to simply charge forward, both ruining your plans AND getting them attacked by the fanatics.
For mixed armies, I'd leave the gobbo bows at home. For gobbo hordes, take them, but keep a melee gobbo unit on hand to threaten a flank charge or at least help out in some way. Or just send in the giant. WAAAAAAGH!
Ok, thanks for the help I was just wondering because you get night gobbos with bows in the skull pass box ,and didn't no what to do with them.

Actually, I'm serious. It is one of the LO rules (see my sig). I actually don't get too uptight about spelling, commas, and the like. But starting and stopping sentences properly makes posts much more legible.Originally Posted by crucial
Thanks, hero, for the change. Rep has been added.
If you decide not to use a unit of gobbos with bows, make 2 units of 30 by adding 10 bow gobbos to a unit of 20 spear gobbos. As long as they're not in the front row, it'll be ok because it's obvious what the unit should be equipped with, and it'll add to the chaotic look of the unit, which with gobbos is always good.Originally Posted by hero
