I recently picked up a decent sized army that I need to put together. Here's a list of what I have:
80 night goblins
1 night goblin big boss
2 boar chariots
10 black orcs
1 standard bearer
20 wolf riders
3 orc boyz regiments (57 boyz roughly)
18 arrer boyz
1 rock lobba
I have A LOT of assembly ahead of me. I got a good deal on ebay and now I need to figure out to make it a versatile force. I'd really appreciate any input from veterans. How would you arm each one?
Do you have any limit of pts ?
I say 2000 pts but you could play more but here my tips for 2k games.
2 squad of NG of 40 strong is enough good as cheap support unit and you can put some fanatic in these.
With 7thedition, never, but never play those gobbos, they're are a waste of pts.
Charriot are good, 2 are even better in combination.
Wolf rider can be used as a big squad with rank (no more fast cavalry) or as cheap flanker
I suggest playing 3 squad of 25 orc and you can convert those arrer boys as orc with shield to get the right number.
Rock lobber is always fun. Giant too but not necessery IMO.
As heroes/lord you can have a bsb,a gobbos heros or maybe a shaman and a warlord.
Like I said these are my tips based on my army wich is very close to what I suggest. You just need to get a good look of your codex, set a limit of pts you want and then make your choice.
Thanks for the input! We don't have any point limits at the moment. I mostly play against my brother, who has a large empire army. We're both figuring out how Fantasy Battle works as we've played 40k for a long time.
When you say never play those gobbos, who do you mean? Night Goblins or reguar Goblins? I took a good look at the codex and it seems that army orc boyz with choppas seems to make the most sense. Would you equip maybe one out of the three units with spears? How about the night goblins. I was thinking of army 40 with spears and 40 with bows. Your thoughts?
Hope I help ya.
I would probably lean towards splitting the Night Goblins into one of around 50 with spears and using the other 30 or so as a support unit with shortbows. In my army I use the shortbow unit to guard the flank of the big unit so it still needs to be pretty big, formed into at least 4 ranks and with a full command. That way they can counter charge or annoy people with a few shots a turn. They're particularly good and picking off a few enemys while they get boxed in by fanatics.
Giants tend to be have more of a impact just drawing fire and magic away from your main units. I use mine to just look big and scary and tend to try and take on either small units or use it in a combined charge with my cavalry. Their speed should allow them to charge at the same time as the wolf riders who add some ranks and a standad.
I don't play orcs so I can't really comment on them but I'd imagine it'd be best to use them as 2 rather than 3 units, give em choppas and just get stuck in.
