Savage Orcs From Standard Orc Boyz

Is it frowned upon to use sime minor conversions and selective use of heads and other parts from the normal Orc box to make Savage orcs? I though about doing the same for some black orcs but Great Weapons could be a problem...

Anyway, what I intended to do was use the parts with little to no armour, and perhaps scruff-up the clothing and weapons to make them look a bit more crude. Essentially I want a whole bunch of savage orc boyz but dont like spending 20$ Au for 3, when they dont even have shields and spears (which is what I intend to give to them).

Has anyone tried this or could perhaps direct me to a thread or article on this topic? Thanks.

I wouldn't mind at all, and I doubt many people would. In fact if I wanted savage orcs I would probably do the same thing. As long as you can tell what they're supposed to be then it should be fine.

The only thing is that now you've brought it up, everyone will ask you to post pictures.

That may be a problem as I dont have ANY models as of yet, but I've got two weeks of holidays to buy and paint

Ive seens a few pictures which look pretty good, filling the spears to look like flint seems to be effective, and putting plenty of warpaint on the mostly unclothed and unarmored parts makes it pretty clear.

I can't see why anyone would complain about you using models that you have converted and painted. Savage orcs are known to wear furs so you can use green stuff to get a textured sort of effect.

Alternatively ebay has been a pretty good source for all my metal savage orcs.

at least half the fun of this hobby is doing the conversions for me. GW encourages people to do conversions - check out their website, that's about all they do (they sure as heck aren't fixing rules or finishing updating the books!) When you go to paint them, make them distinctly different from the other orcs in your army and there really shouldn't be a problem.

Painting them differently should be easy enough, just add their tattoo's and warpaint and they will look different alright. It might be worth getting a couple of the old metal boss models to make up a command group as well.
