Welcome to Librarium Online!
hi. i am a long time LOTR player and fairly long 40k player. i love the look of night goblins and are going to start an almost pure army. i might take an ork hero or vehicle but other than that its going to be predominantly night goblins. any tips and pointers for a new player would be great
Take large blocks of Night goblins! They have poor leadership so will run away all to easy when you start taking casualties. The bigger the blocks the longer they can go without legging it! shouldnt really take a unit of less than 30. If I play mostly goblins i usually take 40 in my main units. give them leadership support in the form of a cheap hero.
Goblin magic is really good, but heroes ehelp more with leadership. Chariots are nasty, even if they're goblins. Squig hoppers are fun, fluffy, and a real threat to the enemy.
Look carefully at the magic items for tricks that will you help you with low leadership, fear, etc. Goblins love to run.
At less than 2000 points I really wouldn't take a Night Goblin as your general. His Leadership of 6 really isn't somthing you want to be relying on when taking Leadership based tests. For that reason I include a units of Orcs in under 2000 with an Orc Boss as the General as he has Leadership 8 (much better  ). This doesn't mean you cant still theme your army. For example, the unit of Orcs previously mentioned all have goblin "riders" the Boss includes a specially done up night goblin with a mega phone to yell out orders.
Once you get to that all important 2000 mark bring in Skarsnik. A Night Goblin with leadership 8! After that I take a Battlestandard as the ability to re-roll breaktests can mean all the difference with night goblins.
Squig hoppers are great as being immunce to psychology means they dont need to be near the general early on because they dont suffer from panic. This makes them an awesome flank defence unit.
What about Squig herds? Are they any good? I too am thinking of going for an all Night Goblin army and would love to pick up any and all advice.
"They say the Darkness consumes you. They don't say what happens after It's done."
A night goblin Standard bearer with the "spider banner" is your friend. Place him in a large unit of night goblins with spears and, if you can spare 35 points, nets. You'll thank me later.
