Hey all, Esthetically, I like the regular Goblin models and not the Night Goblin models. Several, if not all, of my local game group has Orc armies from the Storm of Chaos days which are entirely Orcs with no Goblins. If I could be convinced to start up O&G, I would like to do a predominately Goblin list with a minimum of Orcs, perhaps even none. So, my original question; Is a Goblin-Only list viable? (or even legal?) I would probably take some token Night Goblins in order to bring Fanatics. Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice. Jon

I think an all-gobbo list could work very well, even without Night Goblins. Just think about your unit choices. I take it by "only Goblins" you mean "not Orcs"; i.e. are you thinking of pure Goblins or Goblins with Trolls, Snotlings, and Giants? Basically, you want a horde of the little fellas, supported by something fairly hard-hitting like a giant or trolls, and war machines. To be honest, I think all-Goblin armies are more flexible in terms of army composition than all-Orc armies. Not sure about how you would work it, but I suspect you'd be forced to go with a horde army. GS |

If you want to avoid night goblins just because you don't like the models you could always use regular goblin models for some and convert things like fanatics and squig hoppers to look like common goblins. That's if you wanted such units in your army of course. A few orc units usually helps, particularly on the leadership front, but this is less important with regular goblins than night gobbos since the regular goblins have a higher Ld anyway. An all goblin list is certainly legal. Just as long as you've got a general and your minimum number of core units you're good to go.

I like the new Troll models (starter plastic and the new pewters). My own quick thoughts are large blocks of Goblins, Chariots and Troll units as a mixed battle line. Then Characters can ride Chariots and/or join Troll units to combat Stupidity. Pairs of these will make combined charges as possible. Tactical advice on use of Fanatics? In other words, are there ways to make them more lethal to the enemy and less inclined to get "homesick" and return to my lines? I'm not really opposed to Orcs, just looking at ways to create a list with a whole different look than the SoC Grimgor lists I see all the time. Thanks again for your time, Jon

well I also am just starting fantasy and am making a night gobbo list, from what I have ready a good way to get your fanatics to your enemy is to sling shot them through snotling swarms. Basically from what I gather, the swarm bases add an extra couple inches to your fanatics movement when the fanatics go through them. All you lose is snotlings to ensure that your fanatics have a better chance to get where they need to be.

It can be a viable list. I would suggest lots of magic, artillary and chariots. Goblin magic is good stuff. Brain Burtsa can do a lot of damage especially when artillary is targeting the same unit. Chariots and Wolf Riders are fast and cheap eanough to hit enemies off balance and they allow you to pick out certain targets. |
