Is it worth putting a Black Orc in a unit of normal Boyz to make use of the Quell Animosity rule? Is it worth running the risk of taking a (relatively) large number of casualties in order to maintain control of the unit?
It has yet to be proven that intelligence has any survival value. - Arthur C. Clarke (1917 - 2008)
i too think it must be worth it(although I play Tk vs. Orcs), seems the Black Orcs can take care of things on there own and the boyz get a boost.
However... last game my opponent had his Warboss kill 11 boyz to "quell squabbling."
Bad luck though.
Its well worth doing, I am not sure if anyone else has noticed this but failing animosity tests always seem to happen at the worst possible moment. Normally when you are tee'd up for a charge, then oops they are squabbling and next turn you get hit in the face. A black orc boss or warboss can stop that happening.
Helper monkey, bring me beer and donuts
I always do this.
If you couple this unit with a unit of black orcs, then you've got 2 all game reliable units, who will automatically waagh. This has generally won me games.
admittedly sometimes it can cost you a rank by the time you get to combat, but the warboss tends to make up for this...
I used a Black Orc Warboss in a unit of 20x Orc Boyz w/ add. choppas w/ full command and a unit of 18x Black Orcs w/ full command today against Ogres.
Its nice to have two blocks of stompy orcs. The Black Orc Warboss really comes in handy after the Orcs revert to their basic strength and the higher initiative helps to regulate enemy attacks before the orcs attack.
After today, I'll always put a Black Orc in a block of Orc Boyz. The benefits totally outway the Quell Animosity hits. Its also a bit fluffy, having a bigger, older Black Orc keep the smaller Orcs in line.
