Welcome to Librarium Online!
currently i got spear+shield night goblins for 4 points/each
i can get common goblins with shield + HW + light armour for the same points
is this a better 'fighting' choice than night goblins (ffcourse night goblins can take netters and fanatics, but beside of that)
i was thinking about taking 1 of these common gobo combos in my all goblin army if they're worth it, but i haven't used them in combat (since i havn't played with my 'army' yet). So perhaps you guys could tell me if they're worth it
Well It's a two way split,
Common Goblins are a simple horde army that is more durable than a night goblin army but you should consider the shear killing power of a raging fanatic
Example a three man unit of Ogre bulls charges a unit of 20 Common Goblins w/out spears they get bull charge which say averages 4 hits then doew 3-4 casualties then they attack and say they do about 9 attacks each at strength 4 which will probably cause you about 6 casualties so you have had about 9-10 casualties with no attacks back, even with the auto 5 combat res you lose by 5 or 4 maybe 3
A 20 man unit of Night Goblins is charged and has two fanatics whic will probably do about 8 hits on average then do say 4 wounds killing one ogre with splash damage to another they bull charge and do 3-4 casualties from bull charge then they do 2 casualties because your netters make them strength 3 so with the auto 5 and a musician you will win the combat.
Night Goblins have some incredably destructive cappabilities however you can field more special units and war machines with common goblin army because a common goblin unit will be cheaper and will free up the rest of your army for more stuff and special units
I think I have come a long way to saying as far as a single goblin goes they really arn't that diffrent, but as an army they will play diffrently and kill diffrently so it's really about how you want to play.
Another important thing to consider is the leader ship diffrence (sorry for the length)
tx for the intel
but i think you didn't get what my real question was
i do know that the power of the fanatics is immense, but i was actually asking about the light armour of the common goblins. If that would make a big difference in combat or not
not really, common goblins got hit hard by 7th edition. The idea with common goblins is to keep them cheap and have lots of them, and now they are too expensive to do so. Even with hand weapons and shields, they are just too expensive for common goblins, as you may as well just take orcs cause they only differ by a point or two after weapons. Night goblins at least still start with shields, so you can keep them relativly cheap. After the 7th edition update i put away my common goblin units for good. They just lost their value as support units i found.
You basically have Low Cost, Medium Cost and High Cost Goblins/Night Goblins.
Low Cost ones are preferable because you can take MORE of them. More goblins is always better than less goblins with more gear.
For Low Cost you have:
Goblins with hand weapons and light armour
Night Goblins with hand weapons and shields
Night Goblins with short bows
For Medium Cost you have:
Goblins with hand weapons, light armour and shields
Goblins with spears and light armour
Goblins with short bows and light armour
Night Goblins with hand weapons, shields and nets
Night Goblins with spears and shields
Night Goblins with short bows and nets
For High Cost you can have:
Goblins with spears, shields and light armour
Goblins with short bows, shields and light armour
Night Goblins with spears, shields and nets
Night Goblins tend to come out on top simply due to being able to plonk Fanatics in the units. Sure regular gobbos have higer LD, but it's not going to make that much of a difference in all honesty.
