I joined LO in the hope of finding more people interested in Aeronautica Imperialis, only to find that you haven't got a separate AI Forum!! And that the last post I can find on the subject is back in May!! Oh well, that's life I guess! Is anyone interested in the new Ork Bombas? HG

I did ask for a new forum for AI when it was first released but received no reply. Its quite understandable really; the game is fairly minor and few people have come forward and said they play it. I've only really played the game against myself (how sad ), but when I did play I really enjoyed. If those who would like a forum for AI would reply to this thread I'll happily bring it up with the mods and see if we can get a forum. Don't hold your breath though ![]() Rich. |

OK Guys, thanks for the interest! According to FW they (FW/GW) haven't had a game take interest as fast as AI in a long while. It appears to be the best selling stuff FW have at the moment. And with the release of these Ork Bommas I think they've stirred a lot more interest. I know there's a few more on the SWC who are now showing interest where they weren't before. Personally I think AI is the best, most thought inducing, game that GW/FW have going at the moment. It's all about out-thinking your opponent rather than just relying on dice rolls etc. The feeling when all of your Ork flyers pull a 180 degree Roll over into the back of the enemies planes is absolutely the best feeling there is (in game terms of course! I'm not that sad! LOL) Anyone else a supporter? HG

I've yet to see any games played at the gaming stores I haunt, but then again most of them are in the middle of campaigns. Additionally, the "Warhammer crowd" has to compete for space with Warmachine players, Mechwarrior/Battletech, and the horde of CCG folks. So there might be AI rocket jocks where I game; I just haven't seen a game of AI played at any of those locations. And it's new, so maybe it'll just be a matter of time. As far as personal interest? Very much so, especially since I've read and re-read "Double Eagle" a gazillion times. AI could open up new possibilities for the campaigns our little band participates in; long range bombing missions behind enemy lines targeting industry or command and control, special missions to hit key bridges and whatnot, or gigantic air battles to secure 'air supremacy' over the battlefield. Each of the above could affect how the campaign as a whole progresses. Hopefully it takes off. I've only ever seen Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy at my stomping grounds. I've never seen Epic. I think maybe one or two 'demo' games of Battlefleet Gothic, which I thought was cool, but again, just didn't take off with our group.

I read the 'Brief Overview of AI' by Rich having already had my interest piqued by the models and the sample pages on the FW website. A friend and I (veteran gamers and will prolly be the oldest dudes there) are going to Games Day UK in September and hopefully ForgeWorld will be running a demo/participation game at their stand. In all likelihood I will buy the rule-book and maybe a few models (Imperium most likely) on the day but I do worry about finding someone to play against. The guys in my group/circle are very 'old school' and are still using the Rogue Trader 40K rule-book.... My main problem is I seem to be very adept at buying models but not very good at setting time aside to actually paint them. I've been collecting a Dwarf force for the past 15 years (on and off) but haven't actually painted any of them in about a decade - they currently stand about 6000pts but it's a long standing joke that I'll be buried with them - unpainted ![]() I would very much like to see an AI forum on here and hope other people who are interested chip in to bring the numbers up. I'd be quite willing to travel a bit to meet people for games, once I've got a good grounding of it and have collected a squadron (and painted it obviously). Cheers, Gary. |

Hi Gary, Rest assured that whilst you may be a veteran at your club, you're NOT the oldest player! I'm well over my half century now!!! ;? (Who'd have thought I'd have lived that long!) And you may find that some of your fellow gamers, who like the old Rogue Trader rules, will like AI. It involves huge amounts of thinking and planning ahead and trying to outmanoevre your opponent, not a straight forward set-'em-up and bash-'em game. I hope you do try it, I think it's the best game GW/FW have going for them. And the painting thing is much easier too. At worst you black undercoat them and dry brush them (FW Models) and at best you'll only have a handful to detail paint anyway, and they're very quick to paint well. And another vote for an AI forum! In the meantime both Warseer and SWC gave forums/discussions on AI if you'd like further "chat" about it. Good luck, HG

Hiya Old Man! There have been rumblings in our gaming group as to whether we shall take on this new AI game or not. I have heard that it is a superb game (both from your own musings on SWC and also from some folks on ATT), but I think it is the sort of thing which needs to have a group who are a) willing to try it and b) willing to be dedicated enough to continue to play it. Otherwise it might go the way of BFG which seems to be played very rarely where I come from. The big problem with the GW stores too is that apparently they are only allowed to play the games for which they stock the miniatures (or so I was told anyway). Since Necromundan, BFG, Mordheimian and other models are not on sale, this kind of curtails the number of Specialist Games played in-store. One thing about the AI models though - they could be used for Flyers in the Apocalypse games! The idea would be of course that they are "supposed to be" flying really high, hence their apparent size! Imagine the cost difference too of fielding a squadron of Barracudas AI size compared to the 40k size....much more affordable. Oh, and HG: - when did "CAMFORAI" become "CAMOFORAI"?? E.

LOLOL CAMOFORAI!!! Didn't spot that! (It might be I was trying to hide behind the "Camo"??) D'oh! That was bad, even for me! LOL I don't have any qualms about recommending that you to buy AI and in fact buy two armies so you can offer one to an opponent who doesn't yet play! That way you may well find you gain more people's interest! ![]() The rule about GW shops not playing Spec. Games is pathetic! Have a word or two with your "friendly" local manager about this on Vets night and you may find he's happy with the idea. If he's not ask him why FW exists if not to promote the GW hobby! If he still doesn't allow you to play AI take the largest sharpest spikiest model that GW sell, unwrap the blister or box and then insert it in said manager the hard way, until he agrees to let you play! They can be a bunch of petty-minded beligerant pratts at times! And it's only fair that we learn from their example, but show them that Vets do it better! He he!HG
