hey guys, iam thinking of starting up BFG, it will be between me and my friend and any one else in my store that has it, but i was wondering. would people mind if i make my own nid ships? cause i have to use canadian money, and if any of you check how much it is, its 40$ for a hive ship, and 16 for the others, so i suppose a good 1.2k list will probally be 8 or so models, it will probally come over 176$ that does NOT include taxes and Shiping fees, so do you think people will mind if i make my own? cause i can say that they "evolved into that shape.. or do you think its to far and i should forget BFG?

It is, infact, encouraged for you to do so! Just make sure you use the correct size bases (the little ones for cruisers and frigates, the bigguns for BS and the likes) and there can be no grounds for quarrel, after all in bfg them odels are for show, it is the base that matters for mechanics.
Check out my conversions for some of my examples of what you can do with the basic ships - - Although you have said you do not want to use them, I have used some pastic carnifex and warrior parts in their construction, which may give some inspiration for representing biomorphs.
For the Swarm!
ah what are the bases then *going on nid ground forces* the gaunt size bases are for escorts? the warrior bases are for cruisers and the fex n HT bases are for the hive ships?

You will need to look into buying a pack of each of the small and large 'flight bases' such as those used for screamers of tzeentch and the likes. They should be in the hobby section of the online store...
Failing that see if people are willing to do bitz trades if they have flight bases they will not use due to converted bases or similar reasons.

That is the uk link but look in the equivalent section of your national gw website.

The other thing (surprised nobody mentioned it yet) that needs remembering is that your opponent has to know what each ship is. So, if you sculpt a Gaurd ship, all the other Gaurd ships have to look similar. Of course, you could write the classes on the base.
Otherwise, of course you should be making your own ships! BFG is hardly GW supported any more, you won't see official tourneys or Games-Day events anymore, and any one that plays is certainly mature enough to handle your specific case. So I say go for it, and have fun.
And welcome to BFG- it's possibly the most well thought-out games GW has ever made, and is certainly the most under-estimated/appreciated
