Welcome to Librarium Online!
Was thinking about starting this, could ask a few questions?
1. How much would it cost to start for beginners?
2. How many points would beginners play at, typically?
3. Where's a good website to buy it at? I notice there are lots of sites to buy other stuff, but this game is only found on GW site.
Edit: 4 - Where can I find the rules? The specialist site is down.

BFG is actually really cheap to play. My basic Chaos fleet (4 Carnage cruisers, an Emasculator, a Devastation and a Vengeance Grand Cruiser for my flagship) totals 1500 points, and all for around $125CDN. $80US, because you lucky buggers get cruisers for half price...
1000 to 1500 seems a solid beginners point value - I went straight for 1500. The trick is that unless you're planning to field a horde of escort vessels, even your basic Cruiser starts at around 150 points. Larger Cruisers can cost 200+, and Grand Cruiser/Battleship hulls run from 250 to 500 points. As you can see, the numbers add up quick.
Honestly, the game's cheap enough that any competitors aren't likely to do much better than GW itself.
And as for the rules, the main GW site has absorbed the Specialist stuff - there's a link to "Specialist Games Resources" that you'll want to follow. Here's the download page, to make it quick.
What fleet were you thinking of playing??
Most likely escort Eldar, and my friend is thinking about playing Imperial. We were looking to spend about $50 each.. I think it's probably easier for him to find items on eBay though, since the boxed set is Imperial vs. Chaos.
Seems a lot of stuff is Forge World order too.
Kinda wanna run two Aurora's and then lots of Hemlocks, but not sure how one deals with ordnance without an Eclipse to launch fighters. Also, after reading the rules.. what's the point of squadroning Eldar ships? They have no turrets..
