I am considering starting BFG and I have a few questions about the fleets. First off, is the necron fleet particularly good (I field the Necrons in warhammer 40k). Second, which fleet is the most visually impressive? And third, I saw a model for the blacktone fortress at a GW shop and being a necron player i know what the purpose of the BSF is, but how do these work in BFG i.e are they super powerful or just scary looking?
Necrons are generally extremely powerful.
In fact, they are that powerful that even by the rules at equal points the opposing fleet is not supposed to win on fair terms. This is balanced out by the opponent gaining more victory points for damaged and destroyed necron vessels.
Even if the necs wip out the entire enemy fleet and lose only half of theirs, the opponent will probably have won due to victory points.
Personally i think that imperials and eldar are the most visually impressive fleets though.
The BSF is something to be respected. It doesn't have that much firepower (it ignores shields though, which makes it dangerous to battleships), but it is extremely resilient.
crons are pretty good in the fact that a good deal of their weapons are a big pulse that hits every thing around them or a energy whip of some kind but you can lose even if you win if you know what i meen
the imp fleet is resiliant and versitile but lacks in speed
the eldar are the opposite fast but fragile and limeted in their choice of styles
spambot kill tally: 79

The Necrons are one of the most powerful races in the game, and can even whip Eldar if played well. I would go as far as to say Necrons are the best, and they have some very fun and distinctive weapons.
However, as with all races you need to learn to use them. If you are considoring starting Gothic, I would suggest you learn the rules before you start and try and pick up on the strengths/weaknesses of the fleets you like before you make a descision. The last thing you want to do is start buying models for a race that dosen't fit your style of play.
As for the visual aspect, that's up to your taste. Try going to the GW website and having a look at all the ships on the online store.
Parsonaly I think Necron ships are some of the least attractive in the game, while they don't look bad, they don't look good either in my opinion.
Personaly I like Imperial and chaos ships the most, they aren't sleek, but I find them attractive. As I said, check out the online store.
Necrons are a $ cheap fleet to start with because of their high point value. They are as everyone says tough to beat, but they do require some strategy not like Orks or to some degree Chaos. Blackstone are interesting pieces, but I only use mine in games requiring defences. Forget buying one intially and get a Tomb ship for a Necron fleet after all the Tomb ship fits into your fleet.
If oyu want to look at the fleets, go on the new Gothic offical site (the one with the Living Rulebook), and their is a catalouge of all the models they produce and sell for gothic at the moment. Or just use the online store as Xethemez said. Necorns are hard to fight, but if you are not cationuos enough, a ship might be turned into a drifting hulk and that would ruin you chances. Still, they play well and look nice.
Never drink more than 2 Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters unless you are a thirty-ton Mega Elephant with brocal pheomonia!
