Hi guys, I've just started playing BFG after many years in the hobby, would like some advice in creating a 1500pt IN Fleet, my main opponant will be Tau, any help appreciated!
Interesting, never played against Tau myself. From what I've read though, expect a lot of ordinance from them. Carriers (Probably Mars or Exorcist) would serve you very well.
Is this the Tau fleet from the Armada book, or is your opponent using the Forgeworld list?
thanks for that, I believe he will be using the Forge World lists (he prefers the FW models)
Torpedoes, Carriers. Theoetically Nova Cannons.
When it comes to support weapons aka Lances and Battieries - long range>>weapon strengh
My thoughts so far are:
Fleet Admiral w/ 1 re roll
Oberon bs with sharks
2 x Gothics
3 x Cobras
totals = 1490
any thoughts or comments??
Ps - this gives me
Your points are off I think. You should be at 1465 unless by 1 re-roll you mean an extra re-roll, then that is fine.
Never used an Oberon at all, seems like a decent ship, but I prefer the Emperor. Bias on my part, probably because I've never used any of the Armada battleships. Even with 8 fighters, I think you're a bit light on attack craft.
The dictator is kind of 'meh' for its point value IMO and the avenger charging in doesn't fit too well with the torpedo line. That and 30cm guns puts you right in line to get mauled by ordnance.
Tyrant is okay, but I'd prefer a Lunar instead. Consider the 45 cm weapon battery option.
Cobras could use the widowmaker upgrade as a buffer, a strength 3 combined battery won't be doing anything really.
This is all opinion on my part of course.
How about this, drop the dictator and pick-up an Exorcist. It supports the Oberon much more nicely and is a good bit tougher for only 10 points more. Drop the Avenger and swap it for a Dominator. The nova cannon has the potential of crippling a cruiser with a single hit or wiping out a wave of bombers/torpedoes at a distance. Leaves you with enough to bump the number of Cobras up to 4 (or bump the Oberon up to an Emperor), a few people will object to having an even number of escorts though.
Gives you 1500 points on the dot.

The best anti-Tau Battleship is and will always be Nemesis.
Nemsis is not official, thus ask opponent before use.
Nova Cannons. 6+ prows. And Carriers. Hey, a Mars is a good ship already
An Emperor misses the prow but it has such good amount of ordnance and long range weaponry it'll always do its job.

What do you mean by saying 'not official'? It's Additional Ships Compendium, if not Armada itself.
