I am curntly having a debate with one of my freinds over the verios merits of battle ships and crusers and I was wondering what every one else thought on the matter.
I pesonly prefer a battleship such as an emourer or retrebution over its cruser counterparts, because of its abiltiy to counsentrate fire power. My freind on the other hand prefers the two crusers because on paper they are harder to destory being two targest and you have to criple them twice ect.

Personally I always like to get a battleship. Yes, 2 cruisers are more hits and two different ones. However: 4 hits versus a battleship is shields dropped, versus a cruiser that is 2 damage points. Next turn again and the battleship didn't have a scracth and one cruiser is crippled.
The battleship will gain a lot of fire in need to be damaged, fire that is not directed at your cruisers.

I'm going with Cruisers here, but I feel that I should point out that I'm playing a Chaos fleet and our cruisers are awesome.
The Carnage out-shoots most battleships and does most of it at mid range, the Styx carries battleship worthy carrier decks and no shortage of guns to boot, and the Hades can make almost anything cry for momma, especially if you give it a Murder or two to pair up with. The Repulsive looks a bit wimpy on paper but it's an absolute brute in battle, with the boosted durability of a Grand Cruiser as well.
I like my battleships too, of course (4 shields are awesome!), but they're more of a luxury - if I've got to form a fleet up, I'm doing it with cruisers first.
I voted Battleship. But then i have a space marine fleet. Battlebarge or strike cruiser ? Mmmmm.
Jager bombs. Very efficient at wiping out friend or foe.
I Voted Cruisers, But i love escorts more, to totally throw the arguement to one side lol, i love the idea of making one big ship split its fire between loads of squadrens, But im an Eldar player, So i would
thats fair enough im ploting a mainly cruser flotiller now since i found my batle ship was to much of a point sink in a tourny recently, i still prefere them but im going to have a look in with crusers for a bit
I usually go for a battleship - it looks cooler, but more importantly it makes it easier to deal with that irritating Eldar habit of staying out of range. That said, I usually play relatively high-point games - I wouldn't want to take a battleship under 1500 points.
i'm taking 2 in my 100pt nid fleet simply cos my mate keeps owning my cruisers.
Haha, I'm an Eldar player myself. We don't have any nasty habits involving being out of range- we only have a nasty habit of getting into your wake and blasting your rear end full of new holes!
Anyways, I also play Chaos and Imperial Navy (easiest fleets to collect). I must say that in all cases I prefer to split my wounds, firing, and maneuverability between cruisers rather than battleships. Especially in my Chaos fleet, where I prefer to fight a ranged/ordnance based war.
If I do find myself wanting a Battleship, I go for a Space Marine Barge. More often though, I'll take the points I would spend on a Barge and split it for Strike Cruisers, as I can squadron them with my IN ships (Armageddon FL) and get a nasty mixture of Lunars and SCs together. If anything other than Eldar finds themselves on the receiving end of that pummeling, they tend to just roll over and give up. I've taken battleships offline with that combination.
