When I first started BFG, I wanted to make a Bakka list, as carriers just don't appeal to me much (I prefer to close and fight it out than to hang ships back and launch ordnance). But seeing as BF Bakka is *still* experimental, and therefore probably won't ever become official (at least in it's current incarnation), and a carrier-free BF Gothic list is kinda suicide, I needed to look elsewhere. So I picked up Armada, and I like the Armageddon list. Specifically, I like the idea of using my firepower-heavy Imperial cruisers alongside some close-range Space Marine carrier-type ships. This is my current idea for a 2000pt Armageddon list:

    Battlebarge (Master, 2 rerolls)
    Strike Cruiser
    Strike Cruiser

    Armageddon Battlecruiser
    Tyrant Cruiser (upgraded)
    Lunar Cruiser
    Lunar Cruiser

    3 Gladius Frigates

    4 Cobra RSV's

    3 Firestorm Frigates

Basic plan is this: Barge & Strike Cruisers stick together (I know they can't squadron, but keeping them together will make them kinda hard to kill), throw up a thunderhawk screen, and move in to take advantage of their short range firepower (20cm from an enemy ship = three bombardment cannons, 7 thunderhawk squadrons, and a strength 6 torpedo salvo). The four Imperial cruisers would form a second squadron and come in from another angle - they've got a decent kick at 45cm and huge damage potential at 30cm, and all four have torpedoes). The Gladius group would stick with the SM "squadron", and the other two escort groups would screen the Imperial group or pursue stray ships.

    It looks solid.

Just a note: You theoretically can include ships like the dauntless in a BFA list, using the rules for reserves (not related to those in 40K). I didn't find out about these rules until a couple of days ago, so i thought i'd mention it explicitly, just to be sure

Whereabout's would I find those rules? My Cobra's cost extra in an Armageddon list as they're counted as SM Rapid Strike Vessels (not that 20 extra points'll go a long way, but it's good to know).

Page 12 of Armada, if i remember correctly.

In case of cobras thee extra leadership is worth the points though.
