Imperial anti Eldar Fleet for a Campaign.
I figure they are the biggest threat in a campaign so I have designed my intail fleet ( 1500 points )around the Elder threat. Ships I receive though appeal will be chosen for other threats.
Eldar Strengths: Fast ships, superior torpedo’s and lances, superior fighters and bombers, and have very good protection against Lances and torpedo’s.
Basic Focus: Long range gun batteries and 2 carriers to fend off enemy fighters and bombers.
Emperor carries 60 cm long range batteries and aircraft
Vengence carries 60 cm batteries
Dictator carries 30 cm batteries and aircraft to fend of enemy fighters and bombers. Some games may not be big enough for the Emperor to be in so I need this smaller carrier.
2* Tyrants upgraded to all around 45 cm batteries and a nova cannon.
7 * Swords in 2 or three groups to take down targets of opportunity and protect my other ships.
Total = 1495 Points
What do you think?
Bah. I hope that you'll lose against all other fleets in the campaign.
Even though the official Eldar rules are broken and wrong (in my opinion that is) I will never advocate tailoring a fleet towards a specific opponent. I really really really hate that.
Even if it is your only opponent I hate it.
Much better to design a 1500 all round list that you'll use always and everywhere and everytime.
Thanks very much for your comments. Although I do agree with your comments being prepared for the most dangerous opponent I believe is reasonable.
Although I have not advertised on this thread my next ships i get with my appeals will have lances and torpedo's for other threats.
And, if the Eldar player is a bad and/or has a bad ship selection you'll be toast against the others.
You gotta earn those reinforcements first.
I will have fun tring to earn them until my appeals come around. I have just ordered an Apocholypse battle ship and am looking quite forward to tring it out . Have you used it and If so what do you think.
What kind of campaign are you running, and what kind of rules are you using?
If it's map-based, the Eldar player can just avoid you, or you can avoid him. Also, the repair rules make the bigger ships a bit of a pain, since they'll start taking hits and never really be at full strength.
The list looks solid enough for killing eldar, but you'll hate Space Marines, closing Imperials, and even Chaos (same armor, more guns). I would atleast find a way to get Lunars into the list to squadron up with something else. Lances are your friends, they kill everything except Eldar.
I will try the one in the back of the BFG book . I ahve never played it before .
I have 2 gothics on the side lines and a mars ready to be fielded into battle when I can fit them in. I have also ordered 6 firestorms.
Your list dosnt look speacized enouth, to be fair it will props shread a eldar list but youve speaclized agaisnt an oponat fleet not in a core set of fleet values for yourslef, your fleet is tacticaly infexeable you have too grater variations in speed, fire power and weapon sets to maximis your options efectivly.
I have never played against a competent normal eldar player (the only time ive played agaisnt eldar they let a dominator get to point plank range undamaged) but i have played 3 times agaisnt dark eldar, the sulution i have come up with to deal with both of these xenos species is to create a layered defence, first you need a center peace ( lets use an retribution in this case) its 60 cm bateries gives it double the range of any eldar ships which aproch it if done corectly the eldar will not be able to strike at it with out exposing itself to ether its wepon batories or its escorts (the second layer, i tend to use dominators lots of WBs and nova canons). This doctrin can be used with almsot any fleet however and even though lances are next to useless agasint eldar most of the time rember you can still get lucky, having said that my fleets thend to have no lance but then again i dont realy like them.
in your cace i would get rid of the tyrents there too expencive, if u want to keep them give them torps, dominators are what you use if you want a nova canon, i would recomend you give your emporer topedo bombers not so good agaisnt elder normal ones are better against them but against chaos, other imperals who dont know how filthy they are, tua, marines, nids, and crons there a nasty suprise an emporer unloding 16 torps to a broadside is just rong (although legal i have checked it multible times), also rember that every ship is expendable solong as its destruction aids your victory.
this is my old take all commers imperal list (note how it specalises in two things, yet remains tacticaly felxable)
retribution class battleship, admril + 2extra reroles, 520pts
2 x dominators 380
2 x dominators 380
this fleet is all speed 20 so it will arive together, it has 4 nova cannons any thing less and they are a lucky shot weapon with 4 on average one will hit per turn and you have a spare for reducnancy. you have some carrier capacity wich will protect you form non dedicated ordance fleets, you have so meny weapon batteries that when you close you will shread things that get too close. this fleet also has the virtue that it can still be used whislt increadbly hung over (i have tested this at a tourny and came joint 4th)
im sorry if this has been overly crictical but it is the culmination of all my experance, and rember the three tenants of fleet desing phosipy, one are you comfortable using every single ship to its maxium potencal and two have a theem like ballenced, lots of WBs and nova cannons lots of lances ect.... and third and most important makes shore its a fun list so you and your oponant can enjoy the game to this end ONLY EVER do power gammer things in a tournment and NEVER EVER in a standard game
ps the dark eldar player i played agaist was quike good however in all our engagments so far one of us has been screwed over by deployment rules and other mission related proplems, the second game i fought him in however went was the most even it ended up in a draw however when he had roten luck with ships exploding and destroying half his fleet.
your fleet has one problem:
it is not easy to build for a newcomer since the cruiserboxes (even with the 3 boxes you need) does not come with enough weapon battery modules to build all the Dominators.
You need to buy more boxes or find someone who trades/sells the much sought IN weapon batteries.
In scenarios your nova heavy fleet will be forced.
