I'm looking at making a fleet, and I'm thinking Chaos. This is why:
1) Lots of cruisers.
2) Lots of broadsides.
3) Lots of speed.
4) Lots of range.
I'm thinking I'll make my fleet with mostly if not all cruisers in squadrons of three each. Then I'll use my speed to run around the edges of the table and my long range broadsides to pound the enemy fleet into hulks.
The thing is, everyone I talk to tells me that Chaos' big advantage isn't any of those. It's Lots of Ordnance. In fact, one of the guys who told me this has retired his Ordnance heavy Chaos fleet after it went undefeated in two back-to-back BFG leagues.
Am I gimping myself by playing Chaos and avoiding Ordnance?

Man, I had worked out a whole 1500 point list based around Ordnance spam - A Styx, 2 Devastations... I'll have to rethink. Might end up going Imperial.
OK, until I saw that Ordnance being limited was official I was thinking of having in my 1500 point list a fire base of a Styx and 2 Devastations pumping out Ordnance. The enemy fleet would have to close on the fire base or die a death of 1000 cuts. Then I'd have my maneuver elements of two squadrons of 2 Carnage each circle around and pick them apart.
With limited Ordnance that fire base just wouldn't be a threat or a tasty Victory Points treat and my opponents just wouldn't go for it. So now I'm back to my old idea - A fast Cruiser gun line with a mix of Devastations, Carnages and probably a few Slaughters and maybe a Heavy Cruiser or two.
Either that, or I replace the fire base with a Battleship.
