In my club, as most places, there are a few chaos and imperial players. Every time they come to fight my eldar (especially chaos) i'm always hit with many long range weapon batteries which tear my poor little ships to bits.
Does anyone have advice against weapon battery spam? I normally try to out maneuver and end up behind his ships, however it doesn't take many turn for them to be in sight of me again.
What kind of fleet are you using?
I haven't seen Eldar in action (fortunately) but it strikes me that the big strengths are escorts and torpedoes. If your opponent is loading up on big guns, he probably doesn't have a whole lot of carrier ability, so maybe have a go at experimenting with massed Nightshade destroyers. Torpedoes can outrange weapons batteries, and because Eldar torpedoes are awesome even those tiny incidental salvos have a decent chance to hurt something if they hit. If you're worried about counter ordinance you could take an eclipse and use your ludicrously awesome fighters to escort the torpedoes, but with enough nightshades you might not even need it! The best bit is that at long range with holofields against escorts your opponent is going to get a tiny number of hits and with brace saves could easily reduce that even further. Sure, you'll lose some ships, but this can be heavily mitigated and as long as you can keep blanketing the board with torpedoes you're going to kill something back.
If I'm reading right, under the new rules torpedo markers are always at size 3. This actually benefits your strength 2 torpedo salvos by making them harder to avoid, and since you don't need to combine salvos to have a decent chance of dealing damage just launch launch launch as much as you can. Heck, with Eldar leadership you shouldn't even have much trouble reloading to keep doing it every turn.
Is your imperial player spamming Nova Cannons? If so, that's kinda cheesy. When you have 5-6 Nova cannons that's pretty sick. At 1500 I take 2-3 and balance between carriers, torpedos, and some range.
And yes, you'll find Chaos is all about Range and batteries...I'm told your speed is supposed to be your great benefit and you should try to stay Abeam from those batteries and they get shifted, which helps. Other than that, still a newb myself.

Thanks for the replies, i think the night shade spam is probably the way to go.
The problem with trying to out maneuver its very hard against chaos there range means the movement required to get out of there side arcs is too great even by eldar especially if they have a few together.
Is Chaos tailoring its fleet to fight Eldar? If so bugger of with those opponents. Tailoring is bad.
Thus I advocate against Nightshade fleets, but for a one-time hammer it could be fun.
Is there celestial phenomena on the board?
Nova Cannon spam? pffft NC is nothing to worry about, even in numbers. If you apply the right tactics.
