    1500 Space marine fleet

    Soul Drinkers pre-renegade fleet

    Battle barge Carnivore
    Master of the Fleet
    One re-roll
    500

    Strike Cruiser Squadron:
    Strike Cruiser Gundog
    Strike Cruiser Unendingly just
    290

    Strike Cruiser Squadron:
    Strike Cruiser Heavenblade
    Strike Cruiser Sanctifier's son
    290

    Strike Cruiser Squadron:
    Strike Cruiser Soulspear
    Strike Cruiser Blade of Dorn
    290

    3 Hunter Class destroyers
    120

    1490 points

That's 32 bombardment cannons, which I like. The plan is for two of the strike cruisers to hold up and use their manouvreability to protect the flanks of the battlebarge, and the escorts and other cruisers to go off ahead and make a hole for the battle barge to move into and broadside the enemy fleet. What do you think? This is my first ever marine fleet list, so opinions would be appreciated.

My own experience in BFG tells me that you need a LOT more escorts. I use a squadron of escorts per 2 cruisers, roughly, and another one or two squadrons per battleship. I'd drop one cruiser squadron and bring in a lot of Gladii, and maybe a squadron or two of Nova.

I'd also suggest buying three rerolls for the Master of the Fleet. Every cruiser has launch abilities, and every barge has launch abilities & torpedoes - that's a lot of room within which to fail a roll!

Hunters come 4 to a pack, by the way, so it might be cheaper for you ($-wise, that is) to use a full squadron of 4. The other SM escorts, Gladii & Nova, come 3 to a pack, so squadrons of 3 are best for those.

Ah. In the UK, they're only three to a pack according to the website. But i've learnt never to trust the site anyway, so I'll check the store.
Thanks mEGALOMANIAC, those last two strike cruisers have made-up names anyway, they never appear in the book, so removing them will make it more authentic. Thanks!
Also, I thought that due to the manoevrability and speed (25cm, 90 deg.!) of the strike cruisers would make up for the lack of escorts, but you're probably a lot more experienced in gothic than me (my Chaos 'fleet' consists of 10 ships, most of them escorts!). Anyone else have any experience with strike cruisers that would like to offer their two cents?

I took into account the advice i got first, seeing as the topics here so far don't seem to be getting much feedback at the moment, and came up with this:

    Battle barge Carnivore
    Master of the Fleet
    Three re-rolls
    550

    Strike Cruiser Squadron:
    Strike Cruiser Gundog
    Strike Cruiser Unendingly just
    290

    Strike Cruiser Squadron:
    Strike Cruiser Heavenblade
    Strike Cruiser Sanctifier's son
    290

    3 Gladius Class Frigates
    135

    6 Hunter Class destroyers
    240

    1505 points

Now I don't know if people will get arsey over 5 points (It's gothic! That's nothing...hopefully) But there it is. Escort heavy. But I'm actually growing to like the amount of firepower and boarding torpedoes im gonna get out of them as a whole!

Escorts, I've found, are seldom worried about as much as cruisers & battleships, despite the fact that a full squadron can pump out firepower equivalent to a larger class vessel. Plus, if a lucky shot hits your Strike Cruiser, you could lose it right away. Not so with a squadron of Escorts - you won't lose more than the one hit ship. Same idea as your squadrons of Strike Cruisers, but at half the cost.

Most likely not. BFG players are extremely laid back for the most part - a side effect of playing one of GW's dead lines, I think. Only the truly interested play BFG, so a lot of the rules lawyers haven't made it that far! For tourney play, though, I doubt it would be allowed.

    Escort heavy.
    Wouldn't go THAT far... ^_^

Hmm. Might be worth splitting the Hunters into two squads of three, just for the flexability. Then again, it would give you more chances to fail Special Orders rolls. Your call.

And six ships = one and a half blisters! I'm fairly sure that the UK & US blisters are the same, and my two new blisters of Hunters tells me that they're four ships each! Not trying to bug, just trying to get you the best bang for your buck!

Anyways, ignoring everything I said above in this post, this list looks good ^^

EDIT: Oh, if you're going for a fluffy fleet (which you seem to be), then I'd eventually extend this list to 2000pts, but ONLY add Escorts. Escorts are, by far, the most common ships in SM fleets. Chapters use 'em to patrol their systems, handle sub-Company sized fights, etc. Strike Cruisers are large enough to carry entire companies and therefore aren't too common. Barges are extremely rare (obviously), and most chapters only have 1-2 of them (IIRC). Unless the Soul Drinker fluff says otherwise (I haven't read it, so I don't know), I'd say to only expand with Escorts until 2000pts!

Soul drinkers, i believe, are an assault-oriented army, so whenever they come to someone elses aid they take strike cruisers and sometimes even a battlebarge. But I don't know, I'll stick with 1500 at the moment, as i'm not too experienced with gothic and that's a nice size game from all i've played.

And six ships = one and a half blisters! I'm fairly sure that the UK & US blisters are the same, and my two new blisters of Hunters tells me that they're four ships each! Not trying to bug, just trying to get you the best bang for your buck!
S'alrite. Unfortunately, the only escorts that come in fours in the UK are cobras, from what I've seen, but i've yet to check the stores. But I don't particularly like cobras so i most likely will not be including them in a 'rine fleet. All the rest of them come in threes, and the cruisers, annoyingly, in the marine range, come on their own unlike the plastic Imperial and chaos which come in twos.
Unfortunately, most people where I play gothic understand the threat of escorts and usually target them when they have the chance - whether this will stand when theres a bunch of strike cruisers floating around i don't know, but taking this into account, is there anything i should change? Maybe have them all as hunters rather than the gladii i have or what?
