I'm new to Battle Fleet Gothic so I'm going to ask you guys that have been playing a while a question or two. Thanks for taking the time to look this over and answer if you can.
2 Extra Rerolls 40
Extra Power Shields 25
Maniac Gunners 25
Kill Cruiser (flagship) 155 "Da Facebreaka"
Terrorship 185 "Gutbusta"
3x Onslaught attack ship 120
3x Ravager cruiser 120
2x Savage Gunship 80
Total Points: 750 on the nose
So what do you guys think? Should I have taken the two heavy kroozers, or should I have gone with the Hammer class battleship? And what upgrades for my warboss would you suggest? I can alter the list just about any way. I appreciate it.
Welcome to BFG!
Having lost my copy of Armada (i think LordofChange thieved it) I'm not sure whether you could have taken a Hammer class Battleship-normally you have to have a few cruisers first. I might be wrong, this may no apply to orks (probably doesn't with their ramshackle organisation) but regardless, battleships are quite slow and cumbersome and would need the protection of some smaller vessels. Larger ships should only come in arger battles and 750 points is relatively small for a Gothic Fleet.
As for your Warboss upgrades, Maniac Gunners is 35, not 25 as you put (hopefully a typo) but other than this they are generally the most suitable.
You have a nice mix of escorts there, but from experience against them ravagers tend to be unreliable, especialy without looted torpedoes. And where are the classic brute ramships? These are just too hilarious and Ork-like to pass up on. And they're dirt cheap as well, so it desn't matter whether they wreck themselves.
Not a bad fleet on the whole. Just try out those Ravagers and see how you like them.
Just looked it up - you're required to take two Cruisers before you can take one Battleship, so swapping out both Kroozers for the Hammer isn't an option. Even if you could, I agree with monsieurcartier's argument against Battleships in small games. They're too slow and vulnerable to the massed small vessels that most fleets this size use. I have only one battleship, and don't use it in games below 2500pts.Having lost my copy of Armada (i think LordofChange thieved it) I'm not sure whether you could have taken a Hammer class Battleship-normally you have to have a few cruisers first. I really appreciate this guys. Keep'em coming everyone! I just started and the guy at the store sold me the last of their batlefleet stuff which just happened to be this exact force, before he moved to a new location. I had never played, but he suggested a starting fleet of 750 is what I should shoot for before expanding. I'd also never played orks before but their stuff appeals to me because they look to have all the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Now for another question: What should I replace/get rid of to take maniac gunners? Should I ditch a ship? Should I bump off one of those extra rerolls? What do you guys suggest? I'm trying to weigh and measure my expanding fleet so I can make the most out of there decidedly short-ranged, underpowered shields ships. Again, thanks loads!
I'd lose the rerolls before dropping anything else - in smaller games they're less vital, and you don't have an ordnance-heavy list which might require them. Drop one of them and see if you can make things work nicely.
Sorry I can't be more helpful - never used an Ork fleet before myself!
Definately drop a re-roll, as mEGOLOMANIAC says, they aren't as useful in smaller games. That leaves enough space for a brute ramship!! Sorry, I just have an obsession with them, they're just so cool and totally embody Orkyness.
