Well that wasn't the opening I was thinking about but hey your topic your opening...

Crippled grandcruiser (Dorien's Blade, flagship of my iron warriors fleet) took on a pair of despoiler class battleships (hits 5 and 7). Destroying one of the two and leaving the second at a single hit before being forced to retreat off the board. Battleship's vs technically battleship, no big deal though the grandcruiser managed to make it through the battle with half its hits from when the battle started. (from 4 to 2 and still kicking the arses of other chaos fleets as well as harassing the imperium.)

    Chaos revenge!

yeah que vaders voice from Empire strikes back 'luke i am your father' lol

I won sit by and have chaos made a mockery when one of my brave ships gave its crew and did so well (fine its chaos they're semi-expendable but so are guard right?) 4 chaos cruisers vs a retribution, 6 assorted imp cruisers, 3 swords and 4 cobras. The slaughter managed to rack up kills of: 1sword, 1cobra, 1 Lunar and the retribution class battleship (the latest by ramming then going meltdown!) this happened with mainly only the slaughters firepower with the other ships serving as fire diverters but from that day forth (que patriotic music) I have never underestimated the stregnth of short range weapons and lances or the power of the ramming special orders to take down whatever the hell you like with style! ( throws up for sounding too cheesey like the over patriotic american in some B-movie no ones ever heard of :x ) And just for proof of this so that I'm no bluffing ask my dear old friend frostbite whom i still have a near 100 percent victory rating against :shifty:

I once fired a single Nova cannon at a Repulsive class grand cruiser, it hit, scoring a six and instantly taking the ship down to 6 damage points, the crit was a bulkhead colapse and I rolled a 5.

First shot in the game and his biggest ship was left with 1 hull point.

I know it sounds unbeleivable but honestly, it happened!

I was playing my Iyanden Eldar fleet against an Imperial fleet. By virtue of the scenario and the campaign we were playing in, I was fielding 700 points to my opponent's 1,500.

It was a rearguard defense scenario, so I only had to prevent him from annihilating me within four turns in order to win, but halfway through turn two I realized that I had his entire main line disrupted and had destroyed all of his Escorts without taking a single point of hull damage, myself.

By the time turn four rolled around, I was on the offensive, chasing his damaged ships into asteroid fields with salvoes of torpedoes and bombers and disappearing when he tried to shoot back.

By the time his crippled Battleship managed to limp off the board, I had effectively destroyed every ship in his fleet that carried a Nova Cannon. He was knocked out of the campaign two games later when a Necron raiding fleet destroyed every last ship of his while he was trying to rebuild.

And thats is why you only fight eldar with enough guns and fighters/bombers to take on a fleet twice the size.:shifty: (Cause theres no kill like overkill...

In this case, having a larger fleet actually hurt him, because when he broke up his fomation for the first time, it was way too easy to herd his ships where I wanted them. There were more than a few instances where it was very likely that his ships would have run into one another if they didn't immediately burn their retro-rockets.

Remember: it's easier to catch lightning in a jar that it is to bring an Eldar to battle. :shifty:

Man, someone wasn't thinking 3 dimensionally... Your own ships in bfg will not crash into each other if they move into each other.

i dont get the rules for 3-d play is it 3-d or not, on the one hand you've got the 'ships will not crash rule' and on the other left over torps from a salvo will still carry on and cripple for flagship

The torps will will change thier course when near a ship, so it stands to reason that they'll hit everyhting they touch

Had a Void Stalker and 3 Nightshades at the end of a 2000pt battle versues an Emperor. I lined up behind it and just started pounding it with torps. I caused a few blast makers each turn so the emperor couldnt turn to face me. I ended up destroying it within 20cm of the board edge. If I hadnt I would have run it of the battle field :w00t:
