well ive been planning to start BFG proper for a while and with a bit of trading ive managed to get my hands on an 8 cruiser fleet. ill be expanding this quickly i hope with the addition of 12 escorts and possibly a battle ship.
im using the imperial ships as i really like the style of the ships and such.
ive built my 8 as: 2 gothic class, 2 lunar class, 1 dictator class, 1 dominator class, 1 overlord and 1 mars.
what im curious about is what people think of the different classes of ships available to th imperial fleet and what would be my next best buy?
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
I'd recommend the standard Gothic fleet list for that mix.
I think you have a pretty good mix, if you use some squadronning to keep good ships together. The Dictator and Mars, for example, would both use the same re-load order that way and be able to utilize the higher leadership from one of them for it. The Luanrs and Gothics will work well together as well. Fire batteries, then lances, as they ignore Blast Markers, and your Gothics will finish off whatever the Lunars soften. The Dominator and Overlord should hang back and allow the Dominator's Nova to do it's work, while the big guns on the two ships will scare off anyone hoping to silence the Nova.
Personal opinion, I REALLY like the Emperor for the novice player, the attack craft and bombers provide extra punch, but you already have a nice number of Launch Bays with the Dictator and the Mars. You could use an Oberon, but there I don't know if you can have the standard Gothic list, which is another nicely balanced ship with some launch bays and lances. Or even the grand ol' gunboat herself, the Retribution. With your list, the Retribution could follow her Lunars and Gothics into battle pretty nicely, increasing the length and punch of your line.
I agree with rogoth though I would probably take the retributrion or the Emperor and not the Oberon. In addition the escorts would best be included as 6-12 cobras and 2 squadrons of swords. That gives you up to 2 squadrons of cobras at S12 torps each and 2 squadrons of swords at S24 batteries. Place the cobras anywhere in the center or flanks to either a0 break the center of the battle line or cause everyone to scatter or face the torps coming in at angles to the line of travel. Use the swords to rush in after the torps hit and cover the splitup battle line with twin banks of S24 batteries.Originally Posted by Rogoth
This will rip up the enemy line before the lines even enter range and when combined with a few more novas can rip the remainders into hash. You wouldn't even really need the retribution. There wouldn't be all that much left. So sad!
Just thought i'd throw this thought in: Go for a ret. Seriously, they are a little over priced, but for so much gribble who cares ! They OWN eldar, especially when coupled with an overlord (I meant coupled, not squaded, can't be done I know ). But those two fleets are definatley very middle of the road fleets, reliable and easy to learn with.
