Welcome to Librarium Online!
Anyone heard if they will be releasing these in some form other than a hundred dollar Imperial Armour book soon? I'd like to buy some Tau stuff, but don't want to hunt for the rules.
Well, the non-Forgeworld Tau rules can be found in the free pdf on GW's Specialist Games website. But the Forgeworld stuff is and will, for the foreseeabe future, forever be in the real of Imperial Armor books. GW doesn't support their Specialist Games lines much, especially not enough to completely change a race's ships & rules to FW designs. Sorry.
Armada contains the entire set of rules for the Demiurg, the Ramilies, the SM frigates, the new SM Grey Wolves Strike Cruiser, and the heavy transports. All of which are FW. Those, you can find free in a dowload from the Specialist Games site.
But the later releases were not posted. I was wondering if this was an oversight that they may correct eventually.
Also, the Tau Forgeworld models can be used to represent the rulebook Tau ships. These were the official rules before IA3 and I would have thought most opponents would allow it considering they are just different models for the same ships.
To be fair, you can use any models with any rules. But yes, FW Tau models can substitute for the underwhelming GW Tau models. The issue there is that the GW Tau rules are also fairly underpowered. FW Tau rules are, from what I've seen, much more, well, Tau-like. And balanced with the other fleets.
Armada contains those rules because those FW models came out before Armada was released. The Tau didn't exist in BFG until Armada came out. Then FW made new Tau ships & rules - after Armada had been published - due to the players' dislike of GW Tau ships & rules.
