    Buying Your Fleet

Where can I get my ships? I know that its hard enough to find a store with any selection besides the starter, but the shop I go to no longer will order items from GW. And even if I go to a GW, from what I hear they too don't have many. I'm wanting a space marine fleet, but 3 of the escorts and the THawks arent on the online store. I also need the fleets book, but I can get that when I order my barges and strike vessels. My main problem is the cobra/hunter/nova ships + Thunder Hawks. I know you can order them from Forgeworld, but I live in the U.S, and I can't use credit cards.

Any advice on how to obtain these, or if this thread needs to be in another forum will be appreciated.

Ok, for all your basic BFG kit, buy online in the US online store. There will be a link to this from us.games-workshop.com

I would highly reccomend buying the boxed set, as It will give you a nice rulebook, special order dice and tons of counters. You can always sell the ships to other players. Or use them to introduce new people to the game. Good luck !

I already have the boxed set, and I was more interested in the space marines. I have a good sized SM 40k army, and I wanted a good fleet to accompany it and to add interesting flavor.

Ah good. OK then, as far as I know, the ships will only be availiable through the US online store. Heres the link: http://store.us.games-workshop.com/s...GameNav=300808

Yes, those are the battle barges and strike vessels, but the SM can field 3 more types of escorts instead of the normal Imperial escorts (nova/hunter/gladius class). there are rules for using them, and I know the models exist. I was really putting this up so that anybody with a current SM fleet with these ships could tell me how they obtained thiers.

Forgeworld also does a range os SM escorts (and a GK strike cruiser), Jaffar, but they are quite expensive so the online store is probibly your best option.

The three escorts you're looking for are the same models as the three Imperial Navy escort choices. They're the same ships in every way except that they cost slightly more, have a Ld higher by one, and are called "Rapid Response Vehicles" or something along those lines. Quite literally you are supposed to use the models in the IN section for them.

Don't worry about thunderhawks - use the cardboard markers for ordnance until you really feel like going crazy. So many games I see end up with so much ordnance on the table that it would be pointless for casual players to have actual models for 'em.

Alright then. Well, thats still ok. I just liked the look of the escorts that I've seen. And that ordnance IS pretty helpful, but for now I just would like a fleet to represent my marines in space, so I could set up some sort of fun campain with a friend of mine. I was planning of something like 'Planet Assault', where I launch as many Thunder Hawks and Drop Pods(bourding torpedos) at the planet, with him having nothing but satellites and ground defences. Thank you all for your advice.

Battlebarges and Strike Cruisers represent the bulk of a SM fleet. The Rapid Response Vessels are regular Imperial Navy Swords, Firestorms and Cobra's with the statistics changed to represent the SM crew.

Hunters and Glaudiuses are ForgeWorld models, and as such won't be in the GW stores, or the regular online stores. You'll have to order direct from ForgeWorld for those, and that will require a credit card, I'm afraid. Perhaps you have a friend who would order if you gave them the funds. They are expensive, though.

Though I could have sworn I saw a packet of Glaudius's in metal at my local GW store...

Exactly. They usually have a handful of SM officers, or sometimes just one who acts as ship captain. The rest are chapter serfs. This is just because there's too damn much space in most chapters' territories for pure-SM vessels to patrol it all. Which is basically the task of the RSV's.

    Not true.

While Forgeworld DOES have some nice models for the SM Escorts, GW also has their own (imo, good-looking) models as well. These can be bought off their webstore like any other BFG stuff.
