Just a quick question mates (I've quite taken to the word "mates/ matey", it sounds overtly piraty, must quit )
What is the major difference between the Tau Battle fleets and protector fleets? I know the fluff difference, but i won't fork out £40 for the IA book just out of curiosity. Could anyone enlighten me on this subject? I'm not going to collect them (i already have 1000 more pts of 40k tau to paint!!!) but i'd like to know if they play similarly etc etc.
On a similar, yet less helpful note (sorry for pirating your thread Will ) could someone inform me as to what a protector fleet is?
I have the armada book, and unless I'm not looking hard enough I though there was only one tau list there, or is it the one that incluse the narcissa? (something like that, begins with N at least)

I can answer that monsieur. The Tau protector fleets are the guardian arm of the mercahnt fleet. It is their task to ensure the security of the shipping lines and trade routes, and to provide escort when needed. They are soully concerned with empire affairs, and will not attempt to expand the empire other than to guard new colonies. It is the warfleet's duty to bring the light of Tau wisdom to unwilling races, and to stand as a bastion against threats from outside the empire.
I think that the rules for the battlefleets are in IA vol.3 the Taros campaign. The mini's are sold by FW.
HAHA i see you're now the barkeep.
I'll answer your question by a question, as any Water Caste tau would. Is the Imperial Armoury an official set of rules ? Well no. It is a print by forgeworld, and isn't supported by games workshop in any way at the moment. And I think your should stick to the official goodies, they makes your spoils of war much more deserved.
I thought that the Imperial Armour books were official? Thats the only place where you can find the rules for the tau battle fleet anyways. As far as I know, IA rules are OK in tournies. I assume this would include BFG?
Armada has the protector fleet list. That we know is official.
Armada is an official sourcebook. I would stick to it, as it has plenty of balance IMO.Originally Posted by Will J
