    Putting together a list (Tau)

    OK, I'm trying to decide what to field for my soon to be Tau fleet and I've been running through some ideas, and I had one that at first seemed silly, but the more I look at it, the better it looks I wanted to see what some more veteren players think about it.
    The basic principal it to take a lot of hero's, and way too many bombers/missiles(tau torpedo's). . .

    so for a 2000 pt list:
    Battleships:
    4 merchant's or explorer's (the battleship carrier, I get the names mixed up) Thinking 2 straight bomber 2 hybred bomber/missile, in 2 squadrens for easy reload rerolls.

    Cruisers:
    4 hero's: all default ion (lance) variety

    Escorts:
    1 messenger
    9 orca's: squadren of 4 & 5

    basic admiral with basic etherial. (that's 2 rerolls for the list)
    total points 1990

    So what do you all think? Other than I'm going to run out of manta's. . .
    That's an initial ordinence volley of about:
    28 bombers
    40 Missiles
    And should I get first shooting volley I get ~25 lance shots that benifit from a "Free Lockon" ie the messenger special ability. It looks like a brutal first few turns, course those battleships are fragile creatures. so I worry for this fleets staying power.

    you should have at least 2 messenger ship in your fleet, they'll give a good pyout to your battleships and cruisers. Also a second or third messenger will allow you to spread your fleet in independent forces, making it much more flexible.

    Hmm good point, so make that 2 messengers and 7 orca's, other than that does it look like a viable battle force?

    Usually I don't recomend so many battle ships, but the tau equivalents are fairly cheaper than any other. You coul drop 1-2 Battleships in favour of more escorts, or a kroot warsphere ( a great way to keep your opponent away from your capital ships,th aborading value of 20!)

    The best way to know would be to test it out on 5-6 games, 10 would be great.

    Ya that's why I'm thinking it's an odd setup: that's 1 battleship per 500 pts. Still they're priced more on the cruiser range. . .albeit the upper end of it.

    A related idea I had was tryin' to see how much Ion (lances) I could cram into a fleet.
    Battleships:
    Explorer (with basic commander & etherial) 2 rerolls (the battleship if I got the names mixed up) Standard varient.

    Cruisers:
    5 Heroes
    4 Merchants (ion varient), one has hp upgrade.
    Escorts:
    2 messengers
    4 defenders (2 squadrened with each messenger)


    However I'm honestly leaning more to doing what I consider a more conventional fleet: Something like this.

    Battleships:
    Explorers: x2
    Demiurg Stronghold

    Cruisers:
    Heroes x 4
    merchant gun varient,

    Escorts:
    6 orca's
    2 messengers

    Better commander + etherial

    Anyway those are some of my ideas, ya I'm brainstorming, but hopefully with everybody's help here I'll be able to get insight that I may have missed on my own.
